Vicki Long, 80, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 4th, 2025.

Vicki was born on August 6, 1945, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Frances “Fran” (Park) Weissinger. She grew up in Webster City, where she graduated from Webster City High School in 1963. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Elementary Education from Iowa State University in 1967, and later a Master’s degree in Elementary Guidance and Counseling in 1970, also from Iowa State University.

On July 24, 1971, Vicki was united in marriage to Ron Long. They shared 46 wonderful years together until his passing on March 18, 2018. Together, they raised one son, Jeb Long, born December 23, 1978.

Vicki devoted her life to education and to helping children reach their fullest potential. Her career began in her hometown, working part time in the children’s department at Kendall Young Library during high school and junior college. She taught kindergarten in Webster City before moving to Marshalltown, where she served as both a teacher and a school counselor for many years. She also held positions in Marshalltown, Cedar Falls, and Fairmont, Minnesota, before returning to Marshalltown, where she continued her work in education until her retirement in May 2005. Even after retiring, she continued to support students as a substitute teacher and member of the district reading testing team until 2014.

Vicki was a member of several professional and community organizations, including NEA, ISEA, WCEA, MEA, the Iowa School Counselor Association, AAUW, and the educational sororities DKG and ADK. She was also active in the Retired School Personnel groups in both Marshalltown, Iowa, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Faith was an important part of Vicki’s life. She was confirmed at the First Congregational UCC Church in Webster City and became a member of the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown in 1971. Since 2018, she attended the First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Above all, Vicki cherished time spent with her family and friends. She took great joy in attending the school and sporting events of her son and grandchildren and was a loyal supporter of Iowa State University Cyclone football and basketball.

Vicki is survived by her son Jeb Long and his wife Erica, and their children Dylan (wife Rebekah), Elianna, and Rory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ron Long; her parents Frank (1989) and Frances “Fran” (2000) Weissinger; paternal grandparents William and Elizabeth Weissinger; maternal grandparents Ray and Marybelle Park; and her parents-in-law Clarence and Wilda Long.

Vicki will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to education, her love of the Cyclones and the love she shared with all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 10, 2025 at the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown. Per Vicki’s wishes, cremation rites will take place following her services. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for a later designation to her church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
