Bond Davis DeLoache, widow of Dr. William R. DeLoache, died December 27, 2014.

The daughter of the late Frances Bond Davis and Joseph C. Davis, she was born in Nashville, TN, in 1921. She earned her bachelor's degree and an MSW from Vanderbilt University, where she was president of Kappa Alpha Theta. She married Dr. DeLoache, her husband of 65 years, and moved to Greenville in 1949. She served on the boards of several organizations in the community, and volunteered her time especially to programs focused on children and reading. She was a long-time member of Fourth Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Junior League of Greenville and the Tuesday Study Club.

Mrs. DeLoache was born prematurely, weighing less than 3 pounds. She survived as a result of a makeshift incubator, a shoe box for a crib placed behind a steam radiator. Ironically, many years later, much of her husband's professional work was in neonatology. She spent a happy childhood in Nashville, a place that was always "home" to her. Her feisty spirit was ever evident, whether in playing on the boys' football team at Parmer Elementary School, in earning a pilot's license during WWII, or in her competitive tennis game later in life. Her generosity was evident as well, in her insistent helpfulness to others, and in her dedicated service as a trustee of the Joe C. Davis Foundation. And her family knew and treasured her intense devotion to them, including especially unlimited ice cream for grandchildren.

Mrs. DeLoache is survived by her children, daughter Frances DeLoache Ellison, and her husband David; son William R. DeLoache, Jr. and his wife Mac of Nashville; and by six grandsons: William DeLoache Ellison and his wife Carol Lee, David Gatliff Ellison, Jr. and his wife Catherine, Joseph Blakeney Ellison, Benton Davis DeLoache, William Cain DeLoache and his wife Kate, and Duke Blakeney DeLoache. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, Joe C. Davis and Rascoe Bond Davis.

A memorial service will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 31, at 11 a.m., followed by visitation with the family at the home of Frances and David Ellison, 70 Round Pond Road.
