Carolyn Jane Brown Sherrick
June 11, 1931 - July 31, 2025
Carolyn Sherrick, cherished Mom, Grammy, and Great Grammy, passed away at her home in Greensboro, NC, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Carolyn was born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 11, 1931, to Clarence and Maybelle Brown, their third child and only daughter. Growing up, she was a tomboy who loved to read. One of her great honors was presenting flowers and reading a poem she wrote about the Wright Brothers to Orville Wright as a grade schooler.
She attended Otterbein College in Westerville in Ohio, where she worked and studied hard, graduating with a double major in Math and History. While there, she met a handsome younger man, Dick Sherrick. They were married for 71 years.
After graduation, Carolyn taught middle school in Ohio while Dick served in the Korean War. They soon started their family and moved to the DC suburbs. Carolyn was the kind of mom who played games, read stories, sewed clothes, sang songs, went hiking and camping, made the best macaroni and cheese, and made sure all her children knew how to love God and others. She was the room mom, the Girl Scout leader, the Sunday school teacher, the fixer of all boo boos, and the listener of all of our dreams. After all her kids were launched, Carolyn went back to college, graduated with an accounting degree, and became a certified public accountant. She worked as a CPA into her eighties.
After moving to Greensboro, NC, Carolyn and Dick traveled to all the places she had read about as a kid. They explored the world together, traveling to 90 countries across the six major continents. Carolyn loved her family and her church with a quiet passion.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Sherrick. She is survived by children, Dana (Warren) Walker, Beth (Dennis) Creamer, Rick Sherrick; chosen daughter, Sally (Mo) Bernstein; grandchildren, Alex Walker, Amanda Walker, Paul Creamer (Mary Alice Reed), Amy (Justin) Jacobs, Diane (Oliver) Burns, Jena Sherrick, Kelsey Selene, and Kyle Sherrick' great-grandchildren, Juniper and Tabor Scott, Chloe and Zek Jacobs.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 23, at 1 p.m. at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, 2100 Fernwood Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408. The service will be streamed at
