Carrie Daugherty Obituary

DAUGHERTY, CARRIE AMANDA - 24, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Carrie was born in Chattanooga on May 8, 1983. She attended pre-school at St. Peters Episcopal Church, then attended St. Jude Catholic School and was a 2001 graduate of Notre Dame High School where she was voted most spirited, involved in campus ministries and student council. Carrie attended Spring Hill College and was currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Carrie was a cheerleader and the first homecoming Queen of the Millennium. She loved working at Barleys with her friends. Carrie was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where she was very active with the youth serving as Diocesan on the Youth Ministry Advisor Council. She was training for a marathon to help raise money to fight childhood cancer. Carrie was preceded in death by her niece, Emily Ransom and a grandfather, Harry Daugherty. Our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance. She is survived by her parents, Carol and Steve Daugherty; siblings, Wendy (Jonathon) Ransom, Will, Patrick, Tim and Scott (Angel) Daugherty, Shannon (Rob) Boyd, and Steve Daugherty, Jr.; grandparents, Jim and Helen Rogers and O. T. Daugherty; nieces and nephews, Jon Pat, Max, Chloe, Jack, Annie and Mia; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 AM on Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Mike Nolan officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM with a prayer service at 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Emily's Power for a Cure, 1119 Fieldstone Drive, Hixson, TN 37343. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist. I went to Spring Hill with Carrie. Although I did not know her well, what I do remember is her ability to make people smile. She will definitely be missed by so many.

My heart is with the family and friends both young and old of Carrie's. I was a friend of her sisters at Notre Dame and also knew her from Knoxville. This world will be quite sad without her smile!!!

I am Jennifer Bell's mother, one of Carrie's co-worker's at Barley's. I comfort my daughter and listen to her while she speaks so sweetly about Carrie. I offer inclusion of you and your family in my prayers asking God to provide strength, comfort and love to each and every remaining soul on earth ever touched by the heart of Carrie. I pray that those ever graced with her presence will remember her final days on earth being spent standing as a warrior for a friend. May God find some way to compensate for her sacrifice - impossible to replace, but possible to turn an evil into a living good deed on her behalf.

I didn't know Carrie, but she was a very special former student of my cousin. May God Bless you and keep you strong knowing that she is in His loving arms. I will be praying for the family.

I hope that if there are any words that are meant for comfort in this time, you will find them. Sorry is not even close. Im sure that God will provide you peace, even though it seems like it will not come at times. I know she would not have wanted you to be sad, try to think of that, and I know God is with her and your family as well.
