Bootz, Charles Hearveal
90 of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on December 5, 2014. Charlie was born March 23, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan. He soon moved to Arizona and attended Isaac Grammar School and Glendale High School. In 1943, Charlie was drafted into the United States Army, where he served with the 739th Field Artillery Battalion and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in Germany. In 1946, after returning from the war, he was hired by Myers-Leiber Sign Company and began his life-long career in the sign business. On September 11, 1947, Charlie married the love of his life, Vernell (White) Bootz at First United Methodist Church of Glendale, Arizona, where he remained an active member. Charlie was active in the city he loved, Glendale. He served on the volunteer firefighter for the City of Glendale from 1947 - 1960. He also served as a Glendale Councilman and was active in Glendale Rotary. Charlie loved playing golf and had a passion for cars. In1963, he and four friends started an annual golf tournament, the Out House Open, that continues with the 53rd annual in 2015. In 1964, Charlie and good friend and fellow coworker Jim Duke, began their own sign company, Bootz and Duke Sign Company. It has become a third-generation company and recently celebrated its 50th year in business. Charlie is survived by his wife, Vernell, of 67 years, his daughter Cindy (Bill) Gibson, and his son Jeff (Mari) Bootz. He also was blessed with three grandchildren: Charlie (Betsie) Gibson, Andy (Donna) Gibson, and Brad (Caitlin) Bootz and his six great grandchildren: Noah, Logan, Annie, Kaeleigh, and Parker Gibson, and Tyler Bootz. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 7102 N. 58th Drive, Glendale, Arizona 85301. I was an officer with Valley National bank In Glendale,57th Dt from April 1965 to June 1971 and had the pleasure of knowing Mr Bootz. he will be missed by all that knew and Loved Him.

We met your family at First United Methodist Church in 1957 when our family moved to Glendale. We have countless, wonderful memories of your dear family. It was an honor and a privilege to know Charlie Bootz. He brought so much joy into the lives of all who knew him and we will never forget this truly incredible man.
