Charles Plunkett Obituary

Charles Warren Plunkett
1927-2018
Charles Warren Plunkett, faithful servant of God, devoted husband, son, brother and friend passed away on February 13, 2018. He was born on August 22, 1927 to Walter Earnest Plunkett and Martha Jewell Younger Plunkett in Roscoe, Texas.
He graduated second in his class from Roscoe High School in May 1944 at age 16. He was too young to volunteer for military service in World War II so he enrolled in Texas Tech, Lubbock, but as soon as he could, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. At the War's end and discharged, Charles returned to the family farm and to Texas Tech. In the 1960's cotton prices plummeted and Charles left the farm, joined the U.S. Postal Service in Houston and after 30 years of award-winning service he retired.
Mr. Plunkett was a loyal and devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a staunch pro-lifer defending all human life from conception until natural death, and always concerned about the very poor. Among other organizations that he supported, he served as Texas Vice-Chairman of the Co-Workers of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, by sister Martha Frances Smith, brothers Walter Earnest, Jr. and Kenneth Plunkett.
He is survived by wife Theresa (Tracy) Plunkett, whom he married in 1975. (Their Wedding Trip was to Rome/Vatican to attend the Canonization of St. Oliver Plunkett and then they continued the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land.) He is also survived by sisters Margaret Cabe, Mary Plunkett, Dorothy Plunkett, Patricia Plunkett, Donna Joan Jackson, and brother George Plunkett.
Visitation will be Friday, February 16, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. followed by the Rosary. Requiem Mass will be Saturday, 10:00 A.M. Both will be celebrated in Warren Chapel at St. Dominic Village, 2401 Holcombe Blvd, Houston. Rite of Committal will be in Saints Cyril and Methodius Church Cemetery, Cistern, TX.
Memorials would be gratefully received by: Catholic Near East Welfare Association, 1011 First Ave., New York, N.Y. 10022-4195: Missionaries of Charity (Order founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta) 406 West 127th St., New York, N.Y. 10027; or Magnificat Houses, Inc., P.O. Box 8486, Houston, TX 77288.

My dear uncle Charles will be missed on this Earth but we will meet again on the other side. When I was a little girl I was amazed at this quiet intellectual and handsome man, my mother's brother. He searched for deeper meanings and followed his heart. He found a match in Tracy, his good wife, to whom my condolences go.

My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. My thoughts are with your family at this difficult time. May knowing that God understands your grief and that He cares for you, bring you comfort and peace.

Uncle Charles was a quiet gentleman who was the love of Aunt Tracy's life. I have nothing but fond memories of him. He is up in heaven standing alongside his brother-in -law, my dad as they so often did at family gatherings. Uncle Charles along with my dad and his father-in-law (Grandpa Pesl) will be cheering the Astros from the best seats high above in heaven! RIP Uncle Charles.
Love your niece,

Charles was one of the finest persons I have ever known. A true gentleman, a devoted Catholic who gave so much to others. He is now resting in peace, enjoying all that has been promised to him.

Tracey, my condolences to you on the loss of your soulmate, having met you on several occasions in our diocese at various functions. You had an extra-ordinary life with him. Raymond knew your family well from Weimar. I will have to study up on St. Oliver Plunkett.
