Kansas City, Missouri - Damon Roberts died at his home in Briarcliff from a massive heart attack on Wednesday August 14, 2024 with Jim Pimentel, his loving husband of 39 years, by his side. Damon was born July 22, 1955 the youngest son of Bob and Hazel Roberts.

Damon grew up in Arapahoe, CO and graduated from Arapahoe High School. He attended Manhattan Christian College and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with emphasis in Biological Science. He later earned his masters from Baker University. He taught 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades in the Turner School District from 1980-1998. He was still in contact with some of these students. From 1998-2009 he acted as Peer Assistant for Teachers, developing teaching segments, data analysis and mentoring. He taught a very popular class "Introduction to Science and Science Teaching" for teachers at Webster University with emphasis on hands on experiments.

While Damon had an amazing career, it was for his personal relationships that he was most well known. Damon was very active in his neighborhood association. For many years, Damon participated in the AIDS Walk Kansas City and personally collected over $40,000 for various service organizations. For many years Damon sang tenor with Heartland Men's Chorus and then appreciated them as an audience member. Damon was part of a 40 year old dinner group that met every Wednesday night, alternating between members homes and restaurants, throughout the Kansas City area. Throughout his career and lifetime, Damon was a motivational teacher and speaker. He was frequently asked to sing and speak at others celebration of life, often composing poems and singing songs personal to those individuals. Damon was known for his quick and wicked sense of humor. It was his goal to make someone, anyone, laugh every day. He also loved saying something so outrageous that it caused furious blushing. He and his husband enjoyed many, many travels with their dog, Fraser. Some of their more recent foreign favorites were Portugal, Jordan, Egypt, the Mediterranean and Caribbean countries and Antarctica. Mr. D was a perfectionist and loved, LOVED his lists. He was a homebody, frequently found working in the yard and monitoring the various wildlife that visited. He was called "The Zinnia Whisperer." Damon leaves behind, to miss him every single day, his best friend, life partner, and husband of 39 years, Jim Pimentel, his brother and sister-in-law Cliff and Karen Roberts, nieces and nephews, their beloved dog Fraser, and countless friends they have accumulated throughout their activities and travels. Damon met no strangers.
