Dan Scallion Obituary

It is with the most profound sorrow and sadness that I announce the passing of my Husband of almost 31 years, Dan William Scallion on June 26, 2021 at our home in Citrus Springs, Florida three weeks after his second open heart surgery. He was 8 days away from his 63rd Birthday.

Dan was born on the 4th of July, 1958 to William I. and Helen B. Scallion and grew up on Fox Hill Road. Fox Hill was very rural at that time so he grew up roaming the soybean fields and farms that existed which are now the subdivisions of Colonial Acres, Silver Isle, Foxbourne Place and Inlet Point. He was a 1976 graduate of Kecoughtan High and upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves of which he was honorably discharged in 1982. He attended Thomas Nelson Community College and was a transfer student to Virginia Tech where he was a Cum Laude graduate from the School of Engineering (Civil) in 1984.

Dan began his working career at Pembroke Construction as a Civil Engineer, Estimator and Project Manager until after 11 years he got a brilliant idea and in 1995 created Pavement Consultants, Inc. a Class A Site Concrete Contractor in Hampton. As President, he estimated and managed multi-million dollar jobs all over Hampton Roads with a concentration at the military installations and Wallops Island. In 2010 after the downturn in the economy, he sold his interest in the company to long time associates and became a successful stock trader. He relocated with Delia and Helen in 2014 to Citrus County, FL where he enjoyed the peaceful lifestyle and the warm weather.

He was preceded in death by his Father William I. Scallion (Bill); two Uncles, Johnny Bellina and Dr. Henry Michael Smith; his Mother-in-Law Kathleen Smith Brown; and his first wife Susan. He is survived by his wife and partner for the last 33 years, Delia Lee Scallion, Citrus Springs, FL; his Mother Helen Bellina Scallion of Citrus Springs, FL; brother Steven W. Scallion and wife Vickie of Rockville, VA and their two daughters: Casey Dillon of Rockville, VA and her daughter Annabelle and Kelly Hazelwood and her husband Riley of Williamsburg, VA; his Sister-in-Law Leslie B. Johnson of Yorktown, VA; and many cousins in FL, KS and MO.

Per his request no service will be held and burial will be private. A marker will be placed at the foot of his parent's gravesite at Parklawn-Wood Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Fero Funeral Home Beverly Hills, FL and Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton, VA. In memory of Dan a contribution to the American Heart Association would be appreciated. Mailing address: 10 Glenlake Pkwy, NE South Tower, Suite 400, Atlanta GA 30328

I am sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I worked with him for several years at Pembroke. He was his own person and had a unique personality that you won't forget.

very few people you meet in your life time leave a pleasant memory with you, Dan was one of those people. I met Dan through work, he was one individual that was always hanging around in the back of your mind, the quick smile and positive outlook was always on display with him, though I haven't seen Dan in years it seems like just a week ago i had words with him. He was one of the good ones, surely to be missed by all that he came in contact with. Rest in peace Dan.
