Debbie,
John and I still recall David's happy face with a margarita in his hand at the Christmas party. Sadly that was the last time we can drink with him. We all love him, you deeply love him, but I guess God loved him even more to call up there to watch you from above.
"Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet.
Let it not be a death but completeness.
Let love melt into memory and pain into songs.
Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night.
Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a moment, and say the last words in silence.
I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way." (Rabindranah Tagore).
Rest in peace and goodbye, David!

Deborah, you do not know me, but you know my son Cameron. He and Jeff and the rest of the "Rat Pack" were thick as thieves throughout high school and I am thankful for that continued bond. I want you to know you are in my prayers for the peace that passes all understanding to envelop you now and in the times to come.
I also want to share with you how much Cameron admired your husband David. David showed interest in Cameron as well as such kindness to him, talking to him about life and choices through some really tough years for our family. It made a lasting impression on Cameron; I pray that brings you some small measure of comfort and warms your heart.
May The Lord bless and keep you and your family as you carry on this journey.
Peace, peace, wonderful peace
coming down from the Father above...

Dear Family and Friends of David:
Like you, I'm having difficulty accepting that he's gone. I'll never again hear him say, What's going on, girl? When are you coming down to visit? I'll miss his heart-warming smile and mischievous twinkle in those blue eyes.
David and my dad Richard Brookover went way back, but David didn't enter my life until high school. At lunch one day this guy sat down across from me, smiled and started talking. He knew me through our fathers' connection, and knew that I played softball with his then-girlfriend. After that, David was always part of my life. We became instant friends, took care of each other and helped each other solve life's problems. David was the big brother I never had, and I loved him for it. We talked about cars. I understood that language having grown up in my dad's shop, South Houston Garage. We talked about racing his Mustang, softball and other sports, relationships, and about our futures.
I remember a visit home from college. I was months away from graduating. David and I were hanging out, and I was struggling with what I was going to do with my life. I had studied to become an athletic trainer but still faced a state licensing exam. I was scared. David retrieved his company ledger and the log that tracked his drivers and trucks. He showed me their take-home paychecks, and told me that I could always have a job with him if I needed one. His words meant the world to me, because I had a fall-back plan. But, the fear of driving a dump truck in Houston traffic scared me more than not passing the test, so I studied hard and passed. Regardless, I'll always be grateful to David and his confidence in me for my career today; and for that defining moment of his character.
My father died October 2014. David and Debbie attended his memorial service and again, were the steading couple in my life. They honored my father and assured me that they'd look in on my mother. They kept that promise. Mom has called on David and Justin several times to help her out. Thank you for sharing David and your family with us all these years. Just as David taught his family to help others, I hope others will step forward to aid yours in your time of need. Please call me if I may help, or if you just need to talk. David has given me strength in my life, and I'll try to be strong for you.
Love,
Kendra Brookover-Tharp and the Tharp Family

David will truly be missed by all of us here at NBC. I personally have been dealing with David for the past 11 years and I must say there was never a dull moment. On my worst of days he had some sort of joke to bring me up. I wish that each and everyone that knew him remembers the laughter, love and joy he brought with him. My thoughts and prayers are with ya'll.
