David L. Moore
11/08/1951 - 08/06/2025
David Lewis Moore, passed away in Houston on Wednesday, the 6th of August 2025. David was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina on the 8th of November 1951, and grew up in Marshall, Texas. He was 73 years of age.
He attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated with a B.B.A degree in accounting in 1974. After graduation, he moved to Houston and began a 22 year career with Arthur Andersen & Co., where he served as principal architect of Andersen's then industry-leading positions on rule-making on the accounting and reporting of oil and gas exploration. When Arthur Andersen split and a new company was formed, David was the only Partner to move to the newly formed company and was a founding Partner of Accenture PLC. David was a Strategy Partner and Privatization Specialist. Throughout his professional career, he forged life-long friendships, mentored countless people and earned a reputation as a pioneer of change.
In both his private and professional life, he was known as a voracious reader and a walking encyclopedia, with an insatiable, intellectual curiosity. He and his friends would exchange memoranda filled with "fifty-cent" words, in a quest to outwit each other – a colorful result of his decision to release his inner logophile and read the entire English dictionary, resulting in his creation of the infamous "Bombastic Dictionary." These verbose and convoluted documents embody his unwavering commitment to learning.
The greatest joy of David's life was chronicled through his annual love letters to Michelle, Parker, Penelope and to Jenny, "the love of his life." He adored each of them and cherished the intellectual and emotional connections he made with them. From hours-long conversations with Michelle, and most recently guiding Parker in his latest quest towards Eagle Scout, sharing his love of Paris on a Daddy-Daughter trip with Penelope to show her the Paris HE knew and grew to love. David lived in the City of Lights off and on for several years. His years in Paris rendered him a true Francophile and solidified his love and admiration of French culture, language, and people. This experience also added to his distinction as a wine connoisseur and eventually inspired him to explore French cuisines by attending culinary school in his 60's.
But Houston was home, and Houston was good to David. So began his decades long quest to serve and help the less fortunate residents, namely children. David did not see problems; he saw opportunities to help those in need.
In 2000, David founded CYCLE Houston (previously Elves & More), a charity that assembles and distributes 8,000 new bicycles annually to underprivileged children who earn them by improving their literacy skills. Over the past 22 years, countless volunteers have helped CYCLE to assemble and distribute bicycles. In fact, this year marks the 200,000th bike! A true testament to David's vision.
David's passion for giving was infectious. He was a guiding light to his children, shaping Michelle, Parker and Penelope into conscientious citizens who understand civic duty and responsibility, which meant everything to David.
David is survived by his children, Michelle Moore Foster, Parker David Moore, and Penelope Ann Moore; his four grandchildren, Alyssa, Emily, Cami, and Zack; his brothers, Robert, and Steve; and many more beloved relatives.
He is lovingly remembered by Jenny Moore, the love of his life, and by Linda Moore, his first wife and Michelle's mother. He is also remembered by countless friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives he touched.
A celebration in honor of David's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 24th of August, at the Houston Country Club, 1 Potomac Drive in Houston.
