David Routon Obituary

David Roy Routon, 71, the son of the late Harry F. and Alene Meyers Routon, was born Feb. 2, 1954, and peacefully departed this Earth for his heavenly home Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, at Signature Health Care, lovingly attended by two sisters.

David was a retired plumber and often would proudly tell of the houses and businesses around Elizabethtown, Shepherdsville and Louisville that he had plumbed. In his younger years, when he wasn't working or taking care of his family, he loved to spend time hiking the hills of Colesburg, his childhood home. He loved music, especially the rock of his teenage years, and had great rhythm and a good singing voice. He was patient, loving, giving and kind-hearted. He was loved by many and had a smile for everyone.

After suffering through and during recovery from two strokes in 2016, his greatest desire was to return to Colesburg to live and go to Colesburg Baptist Church. He was able to fulfill that desire for a short time. He spent his last few years living in Signature Health Care of Elizabethtown, during which time he lost two special girlfriends and a roommate.

David was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Routon; his sister, Darlene Routon Crain; and his daughter, Miranda Brooke Marshall.

David is survived by six sisters, Joyce Stilwell of Lexington, Wanda Formhals and Donna McMillen, both of California, Glenda Patterson (Don) of Elizabethtown, Frances Evans (Buddy) of Bardstown and Terri Routon of Colesburg; and a brother, Claude Routon of Hanover, Indiana. He also is survived by four children, Jeremy Chesher (Tonya) of Louisville, Cory Routon (Taylor), Kirsti Routon and Jeanray Routon, all of Elizabethtown. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren, Katie Mae, Colton and Nola Routon, Jaiden Cothern, Elaina and Mikey Barnett, Chloe and Shyanne Townsend and Avrielle and Gavin Chesher; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Coogle.

David had chosen cremation.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service follows at Lebanon Junction Cemetery, officiated by his beloved nephew, Matthew Crain.

Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
