PEKIN - Doris Louise DeVault, 83, of Pekin passed away at 9:23 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Pekin Hospital emergency room.
Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Carrollton to James E. and Ethelyn Odessa (Shaw) Gardiner, she married William D. "Snooks" DeVault on May 20, 1951, in Pekin. He died Oct. 14, 1989, in Pekin.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Gardiner and George Gardiner; and one sister, Carol Cook.
Surviving are six children, Michelle D. (Robert) Kent, Steven D. (Judy) DeVault, Debbie S. (Tom) Teufel, Gail L. DeVault, Kelly R. DeVault and William J. "Chip" (Jill) DeVault, all of Pekin; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, William S. Gardiner of Pekin; and one sister, Donna Hoehn of Pekin.
Doris was a 1949 graduate of Pekin Community High School.
She retired from Sprint-Centel in 1986, with 20 years of service, last working as a supervisor over operator services.
Family was important to Doris. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was a fan of QVC and was particularly fond of their Lock & Lock line.
Her graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Jerry Tupper will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
