Doug was a true friend to Hugh,
and myself. He had a wonderful,
subtle humor, and I'll always
remember him singing and directing
a Spike Jones number, which was part of our music therapy gig at a nursing home! On another occasion, he and Hugh assembled a 'rocking wheel chair', that I had planned to market in the Greater K.C. nursing homes. They
did a great job of putting it together, but unfortunately, the one piece they couldn't identify
(so left it out), was the Anti-tipping device! Needless to say, the demonstrations didn't go well, and we all felt relieved when I shipped it back, and we didn't get sued.
Doug loved to laugh, and had an infectious smile. He enjoyed the many years after retirement, volunteering in the Dental Clinic at the Kansas Federal Prison., where he continued with
his quiet manner, helping people
in need. Yes, I and many others will miss him greatly, and pray for Sue as she works her way through the grief process. Much love to all the Irwins, Sharon Bell

Doug was truly my mentor sharing his love for oral surgery with me. He inspired me not only professionally but served as an example of a man with great integrity. Ken Nelson
