Elizabeth Vega Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Hartwell Vega passed away peacefully at her home on August 27th, just eight days shy of her 88th birthday, with her four daughters by her side. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty will be deeply missed. She was married to Delery Vega for 45 years until his passing. She is survived by her daughters Betsy Oprea (and husband Billy), Holly Vega Wood (and husband Bill), Paula McIntyre (and husband James), and Alison Knoll (and husband Drew). Her grandchildren include Jeffrey McIntyre (and wife Kristin), William McIntyre (and wife Lindsey), Catie Beth Buckley (and husband Collin), Lucy Oprea, Sofia Oprea, Jake Knoll, Delery Knoll, Zachary Knoll, and Sam Knoll, as well as great-grandchildren Michael, Daniel, and Nathaniel McIntyre, and Elouise McIntyre. Betty was known for her infectious laughter and her ability to bring joy to those around her, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Beyond her dedication to family, she was a cherished friend with lifelong connections. An avid bridge and card player, she had groups of wonderful friends that she loved dearly. A New Orleans native, she embraced Mardi Gras festivities with enthusiasm and was a devoted Saints fan. Her strong character and faith led her to serve her community. She was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena. Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd. at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 30th. Visitation will begin at 12:30p.m. at the church. A private Interment will be at Metairie Cemetery on Saturday. Arrangements by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. I loved Betty and Delery! We played tennis at Metairie Country Club! Bob and I were included many times in their get togethers! We followed Allison in her restaurants: Tapas to Lauders to Station 6!! Betty was so proud of all of you! She is in my thoughts and prayers! She was the best!

I have fond memories of Betty as a neighbor and a friend. She made a delicious pickle relish and I was privileged to receive one. She loved to play cards and entertain. Jennifer Tujague
