FELIX HEIMBERG Obituary

HEIMBERG, Dr. Felix "Fil" Age 92, of Lunenburg, on Friday, January 4, 2013. For 63 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Adeline (Hirsh) Heimberg. Loving father of Dr. Carolyn Heimberg and Atty. Jonathan Heimberg, and the late Rosalyn Malin. Adored grandfather of Elisabeth Malin. Dear brother of Emanuel Heimberg and the late Sidney Heimberg and Rita Jacobs. Fond uncle to his nieces and nephews. Dr. Heimberg was raised in Dorchester. He was a graduate of Boston Latin School, Class of 1937, and Harvard College, Class of 1941 with a degree in Biochemistry. Dr. Heimberg was a graduate of Harvard Medical School, Class of 1944. A Captain in the Army, he served as a physician during WWII. Dr. Heimberg came to Fitchburg in 1952 and practiced orthopedic surgery there for 45 years retiring in 1997. While his children were in the Lunenburg schools, he was the LHS football team physician. Dr. Heimberg was past president of Congregation Agudas Achim of Fitchburg. He was active with several civic and fraternal organizations including the Charles W. Moore Masonic Lodge, Probus Club, B'nai B'rith, and the Massachusetts Medical Society (Worcester North District). Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 268 Washington St., Leominster on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00AM. Burial at Agudas Achim Cemetery, 295 Rollstone Rd., Fitchburg. Memorial observance to be announced. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Harvard Hillel, 52 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 or Boston Latin School Foundation, 101 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02199 or the Simon Wiesenthal Center, 1399 South Roxbury, Los Angeles, CA 90035. I remember my Uncle Fil's soft-spoken gentleness, his kindness, and how much his sister Rita, my mother, loved him.

i was a nurse at Burbank in Dr. Heimberg's tenure there. He was a great teacher, kind. I recall fondly from the really old days when patients were in traction for months, that he would place the ropes and pulley's and sand bags all the while saying why they had to be in just this way.

They don't make them like him any more, I think!

Your family's loving and vivid tributes to Dr. Heimberg were a testament to his generous and caring nature. He was special to so many people, in so many ways. He will be sorely missed, but you are all doing him proud with your courage, sensitivity and character. May time lessen your grief and heighten your wonderful memories. I spent several years as a patient of Dr. Heimberg, and he was one the kindest, gentle and caring men that I have ever known. I will always remember him with great respect and admiration.

Carolyn and family.My sincere sympathy to all of you. Your Dad was a wonderful doctor. I was at Burbank in Radiologic Tech School and I learned a lot from him. He was always very pleasant and caring. Patients and staff loved him because of his kindness. He will be missed.
