Ferdinand P Schoedinger, Jr. died September 16, 2017. He was born on June 10, 1920 to Ferdinand P. and Florence Peters Schoedinger. He and Mary Matchneer Schoedinger were married for 55 extremely happy years until she died in 2005. His sister was Mrs. Robert (Anne) W. Monsarrat who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy S. Atwell, of Fairfield, CT, and son Ferdinand P. (Kate) Schoedinger III of Weare, NH; grandchildren: Christopher W. Atwell (Anna), of Ventura, CA, Jason P. Atwell (Erika), of Golden, CO, Elizabeth (Liza) K. Schoedinger and Ferdinand P. Schoedinger IV, of Weare. NH; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Abby Atwell of Ventura, CA. In 1938 he graduated from Ohio State University High School. In 1942 he received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from Cornell with a major in aircraft engineering where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Sphinx Head and Tau Beta Pi. From July of 1942 until June of 1943 he worked as an engineer at the Curtis Wright Co., which made naval aircraft. In 1943 he received a commission in the U S Navy as Ensign A-V (S) (Aviation Specialist). After indoctrination and training at the University of Minnesota and the Lockheed Aircraft Company, he was stationed for five months at the Navy Seaplane Base, Key West, FL. During the remainder WW II he was stationed on many different islands in the Pacific. After the war was over, he worked for Mr. F. O. Schoedinger at his factory in Columbus. Subsequently, while taking a year off from that job, he earned his MBA Degree from the Ohio State University. He returned to F. O. Schoedinger, Inc. to work for thirty four years where he held the position of Chairman of the Board and Treasurer until his retirement in 1981. He served on the board of Bexley Public Library and was a past president. Also, he was a long time member of Board of Columbus Home for the Aged where he served as Treasurer. He was a member and past president of Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club, a member of The Columbus Country Club and Columbus Rotary Club. He and his wife loved to travel and over the years visited six continents. They enjoyed playing golf and going to dinner together.
He was extremely proud of his service to his country during WW II. His children and grandchildren will remember him as a loving, giving, caring and interested father and grandfather. Arrangements entrusted to the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 333 S Drexel Ave, Bexley, OH 43209. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The St. Alban's Church, The United Way or a charity of your choice. Kathy, I remember seeing both your mother and father stroll, arm-in-arm, up and down North Drexel. Then, after your mother's passing, you father would make the trip alone. Finally, a few years ago, I no longer saw him taking that stroll and I felt sad. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father.
