Gregory Allen Obituary

Mr. Gregory Phillip "Grumpy" Allen, age 67 of Rome, GA passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at a local hospital. Mr. Allen as born on December 30, 1954 in Rome, GA son of the late Herman "Big Un" Lloyd Allen and Barbara Trotter Allen Pierce. Greg attended Armuchee High School and Coosa Valley Technical School in Rome, GA. He was employed at Georgia Power for 40 years. During his career as a fleet mechanic, Mr. Allen worked worked some of the worst storms in the region, his knowledge of mechanics was sought after by many. After retirement, he embraced his love of history, specifically pioneer chuck wagon cooking. Under the handle " Grumpy's Grub", he won many awards at competitions spanning from the Carolinas to Texas. Of all his chuck wagon accomplishments, his most prized award was a silver and rhinestone embellished belt buckle for an overall win in Pigeon Forge, TN.

When Grumpy wasn't at his shop tinkering or working on a variety of cars, trucks, and tractors, he could be found watching old westerns and terribly written old sci-fi movies. Mr. Allen was also an avid reader, primarily of historical works. Greg was preceded in death by his first wife, Terry Free; brothers, Russell Allen and Craig Allen. He is survived by his wife; Nancy Colston Fowler Allen, whom he married on December 1, 1984; daughter, Danielle Lasha Allen of Rome, GA; daughter, Amy Fowler Forston (Joe) of Cedartown, GA; granddaughter, Lauren Forston Webb (Kailey) of Cedartown, GA; brother, Jason Pierce (Lesli) of Crestwood, KY; brother, Andy Allen (Shealene) of Cedar Key, Florida; Sister, Jana Kay Allen Cathey (Graham) of South Carolina; Aunt, Margie Smith of Rome, GA; Aunt, Carol Edwards of Subligna, GA; brother-in-law, Greg Free, Sr. of Rome, GA; several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

A Celebration of Life with wild and fun stories of Grumpy will be held at Mr. Allen's residence on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery is honored to serve the family of Mr. Gregory Phillip "Grumpy" Allen.
