Gregory Slack Obituary

Gregory Edward Slack, Sr.

Knoxville, TN

Gregory Edward Slack Sr., 62, went to be with Jesus on November 2, 2017 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Knoxville, TN on September 13, 1955. His faith was evident as he walked each day of his journey relying on the strength and provision of his Lord - trusting in His plan. Greg is remembered for the love and joy he found in his family and friends. He was honored to be a grandfather. He was known for his hospitality and his constant caring for the needs of others. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ray Harkins Slack; father and mother, Thomas Joseph Slack, Sr. and Dorothy Foster Slack; mother in law, Christine Faye Wilson Smith; step-father in law, Albert W. Smith; granddaughter, Lylie Tatum Budd; brother in law, Bill Smith. Greg is survived by son and wife Gregory Edward Slack (Jaclyn); daughter and husband Cynthia Nicole Budd (Garnet); brothers and wives Tom Slack; Bob Slack (Mary); Steve Slack (Paula); step-mother-in-law Sylvia Carr Slack; brothers-in-laws and wives; Ben Harkins (Julie); Jerry Smith (Paige); sister in laws and husbands Sharon Scott (Tom); Gay Bradley (Duane); Evie Manard (Tom); Robin Nichols (Tim); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him. Greg worked in construction and when he was not on the job site, you could find him on the farm. He loved his horses and his Ford Jubilee! I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 5, from 1:30-3pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 3pm, Alan Edick officiating. The interment will be private. Family and friends may share their condolences online at www.highlandmemorialknoxville.com.

So I'm cleaning out some things at the old shop and found an original RCA tube caddy.
Wow, remembering all the time spent on Millertown pk.
Being there was safe with all off you guys, and hindsight with wisdom reveals how much all was given me there.
Popper , Dot TJ , Bobby Steve and Gregg.
I'm so grateful for it .
Thank you all, catch up for sure at a heavenly reunion. Be blessed

To all my Slack friends,
So sorry I was unable to attend the gathering for Greg, but know that my thoughts and prayers were with you all. When I think of Greg, I always remember him as the one that would try to push me in the creek at Millertown Library when we were little! Did he accomplish the task, NO, but we all laughed! I am beginning to think he was just trying to scare me and not really push me! I remember the times I bought Christmas trees from him. I also worked the little store he had at the K-mart parking lot too. Lots of great memories with this guy! Sure will miss seeing him up and down Millertown Pike. So, with this said, please keep the many memories that you have with Greg close to your hearts and you will forever wear a SMILE :).

So sorry to hear the news of Gregs passing. My heart goes out to all family and friends. I know how hard it must be...but he no longer has pain and is in the hands of God! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers in the days that are ahead. We will see him again in the Beauty of Heaven! ❤❤ I remember his smile & thinking he was just so young...only a year behind me...but growing up a year behind was like they were just kids! Keep your memories close to your hearts and he will never be far away. xxoo
