Harrison Withrow Obituary

WITHROW, HARRISON L., America has lost another World War II Veteran. Harrison L. Withrow, a resident of Florida, passed away in Ohio at his daughter Alice's home in Kettering on September 19, 2012. He was born on July 25, 1921 to L.H. and Lillian Holley
Withrow in Charleston, West Virginia. After a difficult childhood in the Great Depression, he joined the Four C Program during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's time in office. In 1941, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific in the Campaigns of Guadalcanal, Luzon and Southern Philippines. He was very proud of the medals he earned, particularly the World War II Victory Medal, but never forgot the horrors of the war. He and Josephine Kozen were married on New Year's Day 1944. After his discharge in 1947, he worked for the Civil Service, U.S. Air Force, as a B-52 Bomber Mechanic and later as an Aircraft Test Mechanic. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo; and son, Kenneth Paul. He is survived by daughters, Sandy Davis (Jack), Dorcas Denger (Tom), Alice
Sanders and his caregiver, Tom Sanders, who loved him as a father; grandchildren, Robin Vaughn, Jack Davis III, Zachary (Tarren) Denger, Joe (Maggy), Stacy
(Danny) and Amanda (Jeff) Palmer; great grandchildren, Sienna,
Nathan and Rusty Palmer, Ali
Louderback, Myah and Caden Salmons, Ryan Amole, Austin
Bishop, Nathan and Quinntin, and Georgia Davis. Our Dad enjoyed life and was the ultimate "tinkerer". His favorite pastime was working on his beloved motor scooters and spending time outside working in his yard or on his front porch watching the world go by. He always considered himself a lucky man. He made friends wherever he went and delighted in playing jokes on unsuspecting eavesdroppers. He will be greatly missed by his girls. Semper Fi, Dad. A visitation will take place on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 6 - 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. A funeral service will take place the following day, Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens. I got to know Harrison when I lived in Orlando and found him to be a very nice man. He was quite the story teller and a prankster in his own right. You are greatly missed Harrison!
