I was a young, novice teacher when I worked with Shorty.
I appreciated his warmth, humor, and friendship. It helped me stick with the job. He will be missed.

What a great friend I had with Shorty during the time we played fast pitch softball here in town. The balls hit to center field Shorty always caught The team from Detroit nicknamed him the rabbit for his speed. I will miss seeing him at the Elks Lodge. Rest in peace my man.

My son, Jay, also worked summers between college with Shorty at Westerville Schools for Glenn Day. Shorty shared a bit of good advice with Jay: "Digging with a shovel may be the best exercise because you are using legs, knees, arms, and back." I, too, was only blessed to play in the outfield of the Westerville RedHead undefeated softball team with Shorty in 1970. He was reputed to be 'certainly among the best of the Berliner park fast pitch days of the fifties. I was told that he could steal first, second, third, and home with his speed and cleverness. We shared the field with a bunch of outstanding coaches, such as Dick Reynolds, Chuck Deyo, Fred Nocera, John Campbell and others. Shorty always helped any team and was, otherwise, just a wonderful human being and instant friend.

I have great memories of Shorty playing fast pitch softball with my dad. But I personally shared great times with Shorty when we both worked at Westerville North High School. Thanks Shorty, Bill Brockman

Tina, I didn't know your Dad but I know you, his wonderful daughter. Just from knowing you, I feel that this world lost a wonderful man. His life was long but we always want our loved ones to stay a little bit longer.

Just know that his spirit will always be with you and his loved ones. For now, my prayers are for your acceptance of the loss and for comfort for you and your family's spirit.

Much love,
