JAMES ROMANO Obituary


JAMES JOSEPH ROMANO (Age 82)  Foreign Service Officer  
On Friday, June 1, 2012, of Chattanooga, TN, died of a stroke at his home. He was born on June 2, 1929 in Hazelton, PA. A Foreign Service Officer who began his career as a Diplomatic Courier following service in the Korean War as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. He travelledextensively in South America as a Courier in the 1950's. He was posted to several overseas missions and served in the Panama Canal; Tokyo, Japan; Khartoum, Sudan; Istanbul, Turkey; Wellington, New Zealand and retired with over 30 years of service at the U.S. Embassy, Mexico City, Mexico. He served in the United States as an official in the East Asian Bureau, Department of State, Washington, DC, as Director, Miami Reception Center and as a Deputy Chief of Mission Coordinator at the Foreign Service Institute. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Adrienne Joan Romano of Chattanooga, and his two sons James Patrick Romano of Chattanooga, TN and Rear Admiral Steven James Romano, SC, USN (Ret.) of Arlington, VA, two granddaughters Stephanie Joan Romano and Elizabeth Ree Romano.  Funeral services will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, TN on June 6, 2012 at 1 p.m. He is joined in heaven with his daughter Joan Marie Romano, 17 who passed away many years ago.
