Jeffrey Gibbs Obituary

Gibbs, Jeffrey
Jeffrey M Gibbs, DDS, age 57, walked into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father when he was called to his eternal home following a very courageous 14 month battle with cancer. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 31 years, Carol Himes Gibbs; and three precious sons, Matthew (fiancé, Erica Thorson), Brendan and Christian. His parents, Bobby and Joyce Gibbs, also survive him, as well as his sister, Susan and David Hatgas, Glenn and Carmen Himes, Martha and Dave Hagaman, Susan and Dave Krebs, and many treasured nieces and nephews. Jeff was born on August 10, 1960 and graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1978, enjoying success on the basketball court and lifelong friendships made through this game. He attended Wake Forest University, and following graduation from The Ohio State University, attended Dental School and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from OSU. He joined the practice of Raymond D. Johnston, DDS and the practice soon grew to become Camelot Dental Group, forming a solid 28 year partnership/friendship with G. Paul King. He treasured his staff and patients and considered it a gift to work with such wonderful people and develop such longtime friendships. He was honored to receive a lifetime Dental Achievement Award from his patients and colleagues this spring. Jeff's greatest joys were spending time with family and watching his boys participate in sporting events, coaching their teams, going on mission trips, having deep theological discussions with friends at bible study, or laughing through family mountain adventures. His dry wit, great sense of humor, and ability to laugh at himself made him a friend to all and true blessing to those close to him. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people he impacted through his Christ-like example. The family also wishes to thank the medical teams of Dr. Matt Old, and Dr. David Liebner at the James for amazing care and dedication with this challenging case. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at The Jeffrey M Gibbs Memorial Fund, The James Cancer Hospital, 660 Ackerman Road, PO Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, with a celebration of Life Service on Saturday, October 7 at 11 a.m., The Church at Mill Run, 3500 Mill Run Dr, Hilliard, OH 43026. When I moved to Cincinnati from Columbus, not too long ago-after living there 32 years, one of the things I missed was Jeff.as my long time dentist and as a friend. I would kid with him that having me as a patient was like pulling teeth. And I always enjoyed the eye roll I would get when I told him of my past time of chewing on ice cubes. He did have an engaging personality and sense of humor but he was so much more. Jeff was a man I respected: he was compassionate, he offered sage advice, he was thoughtful, and he lived his life according to his beliefs. He was an example and an inspiration. I am deeply saddened of only learning about his passing and the services. He was a man worth going a long way to say good bye. I have no doubts Carol, his children, his close family and many friends have many fine memories, which I hope will sustain them in the days to come. He was a kind soul with too much yet to offer but he left us too, too soon. I am glad to have known him. Godspeed to you Jeff and to your family.

Carol and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Jeff was one, if not our most, favorite Sunday school teacher at UA Grace! His love for Jesus was apparent and he kept the class fun and interesting. Richard always enjoyed chatting with him. I can't imagine what you have and continue to go through. We are sending a virtual hug and prayers.

We were privileged to go on a mission trip to Honduras with Jeff. He took such care with the people he worked on while there and was a great encouragement to many. Even though we have not seen much of him and his family since we moved to Texas, he will be missed by many. Sympathy to Carol, the children and his parents. They are all special people.

Your warmth, passion, caring, positive attitude and professional skill provided me with quite a bit of hope. I imagine this is a reflection of your faith and I appreciate how strong yours must have been through the battle.

Dr. Gibbs was my dentist for more than 15 years he was a wonderful, gentle and kind human being. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed. He always had a smile and a cute joke to share. It was a standing joke with Dr. Gibbs and I that I must have been his first patient. Over the 30 years serving as my dentist, I grew to love and trust him. He was an expert at his trade and removed any fear I previously had of dentists. He will be missed by all that knew him. My condolences to his family. He spoke of you often and his pride for his family was always apparent. God bless and heart felt prayers.

To Jeff's family and extended Camelot family,
Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed. Not only was he an excellent Dentist but also a kind and decent human being. He was always uplifting and genuinely concerned not only with your dental work but also, without prying, with your personal life. He always had a smile and a deep concern for each and every patient. He is the only dentist that we actually looked forward to going to. He will be greatly missed.

To the Gibbs family - I am so sorry about Dr. Gibb's passing. He was my dentist, but I also went to high school with his sister, Susan. He was such a wonderful, caring and always happy man.

My father passed away after a 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer, so I can appreciate the struggle that you as a family have been going through.

I'm sure he is looking down on you now, saddened that he had to leave, but at least in no more pain.

My heart hurts for all of you.

Our hearts and prayers are with Carol and the Gibbs and Himes family, along with the Camelot Dental Group. You know more than most of us the depths of this man of God. We loved Dr. Gibbs from the moment he became our dentist with Dr. Johnson's retirement. Through three generations and many more family members, we were blessed to have been under his care and expertise that was always given in humor and compassion.
