Struthers - It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our brother, John Sovick, 70, who passed away on February 2, 2025 under the care of Ohio Living Hospice.
He was born on May 18, 1954 in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Nicolina (Thomas) Sovick.
He was a 1972 graduate of Struthers High School and a construction worker by trade.
John or Johnny, as he was known by his family, had a tender heart. Even though he was a bit of a rebel by nature, he would kindly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was known for his sarcastic sense of humor, charismatic personality, and animated storytelling. He was a very artistic, out-of-the-box thinking individual, who had a knack for drawing and carving the most unique things out of wood. He was a skilled pool player who also loved sitting alone with his guitar playing his favorite Beatles song.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, siblings, Frank (Mary Ann) Sovick of Poland and Nancy Zimbardi of Struthers; his nephews, Frankie (Megan) Sovick Jr., Michael (Amanda Nagy) Zimbardi Jr., and Vinnie (Bri Santiago) Zimbardi; his niece, Dana Gemma; four great-nephews, Anthony, Vincent, Henry, and Nicholas; great-niece, Lucia; an uncle, Richard Holmes of Youngstown; several cousins and Bosco, his long-time feline companion. A special thank you to our cousin, Erma, for all her help and kindness towards John.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m with a small service immediately following at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. Struthers, OH 44471.
