John H. Truett

1933 - 2018

Name of Deceased: John H. (Jack) Truett, a retired business executive and life-long resident of New Orleans and Metairie, died on June 29, 2018. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Truett was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. Erwin Truett (Clare). He is survived by Jane Babst Truett, his beloved wife of 59 years, their son and daughter in-law, John Jr. and Melissa, his three grandchildren, Jack, Frances, and Monty Truett, his two step-grandchildren, Austin and Christian Vollman, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mr. Truett was preceded in death by his son Robert Babst Truett and his brother F. Erwin Truett, Jr. Mr. Truett, before retirement, was President of LAMATT Agency, Inc. (Ruud and Raypak water heater equipment) and Southern Heater Co., Inc. (HVAC) and served on several advisory committees of the factories he represented. He started his career with the United Delco Division of General Motors Corporation and served as a District Manager for 14 years. During that time, he also managed his investment in the automotive parts distribution business. Mr. Truett was educated at New Orleans Academy, Alcee Fortier High School and Tulane University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was a past member of the Southern Yacht Club, Metairie Country Club, Bienville Club, and several carnival organizations. After high school, Mr. Truett served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950-1952 during the Korean War. He was an avid duck hunter and outdoorsman and a loyal supporter of Tulane athletics. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a graveside service will follow the Mass at Metairie Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org.
