Larry Arnett Matlock was born Monday, February 13, 1950. He was the 4th son of Janie Mae (Bruton) Matlock and James L.C. Matlock. Larry passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 74. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Janie and James Matlock; stepmother, Jenny Matlock; 2 other brothers, Donn & Lester, and daughter, Cynthia Clayborn.
Larry retired from the school board (Columbus City Schools) as a custodian. Though he was retired (we couldn’t tell), he was a workaholic and wore multiple hats. He was a pastor well over 20 years, he worked as a security officer of Bradford Culinary Institute, he drove as a PGR Patriot Guard Rider. PGR was an officer riding a motorcycle to escort funeral processions. He really enjoyed riding motorcycles. Besides these jobs he always helped family and friends, and he never met a stranger.
Everywhere he would go, someone knew him. He was a very personable, friendly, nice hardworking, easy-going type of guy, he loved talking about the Lord and speaking God’s truth. Larry was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, friend and friend of God. God felt he was needed in the Kingdom, so he called him to come home. He is now resting and at peace. He wouldn’t want anyone crying and messing up his suit. This is a Home Going and not a funeral. His spirit will live on. John 16:22 “And ye (you) now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your joy no man taketh from you.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving devoted Family: wife, Faye Matlock of Columbus, Ohio; 2 brothers, Ronald (Margie) and Minister Mark (Greta) Matlock of Columbus, Ohio; 2 stepsisters, Bonnie (Ruffus) Jones of Columbus, Ohio. Paulette (Jimmie) Mahone Detroit, Michigan; sons, Larry Lawson, Dominic (Taisha) Matlock (Matt), James L.C. Matlock, Charles (Monica) Clayborn (Fred), Timothy Clayborn (Tim), Robert (Lajuana) Clayborn (Vell), Quinton Johnson (Lamar); daughters, Lynetta (Wayne Deal) Lawson (Netta), Mia (Darius) Matlock Spruce (Boo) of Canton, Detroit, Wuanika Matlock (Stuff), Lauren (Dennis) Lui of Dallas, TX, Simone Clayborn. We call him Abraham from the bible because his descendants did EXACTLY what the bible said and were very fruitful and did MULTIPLY!!! He has an abundant number of great grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, God children, friends and family.........far too many to count and name. But he loved EACH and EVERYONE of you!!!!!
