Matthew Loftus Obituary
MATTHEW BRIAN LOFTUS
Matthew was born in Washington, DC on May 24, 1974 and died on January 27, 2022. He was a chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He also graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where he was an outstanding athlete starring on the ice hockey team and honored as Most Valuable Player and Captain of the University's Division 1 Lacrosse team.
An avid Washington Capitals fan, he amazed us with his knowledge of the team and sport. He operated a successful personal chef business for a number of years and also worked in various restaurants in the Washington area.
Matthew is survived by his father, Robert Loftus, of Washington and his mother, Mary Lou Martin of Alexandria, VA; step mother, Linda Loftus, and step father Jim Martin. Matthew is also survived by two brothers, Christopher Loftus (Laura) of Alexandria, and Patrick Loftus of Arlington, VA; cousin Conor Loftus; nephew Simon Loftus; and beloved aunt Claire and uncle Gerry. In addition, Matthew leaves behind step brothers and sisters, John, Joe, and Jamie Martin, and Estelle Blalock and Mary Lou Alcala; and many friends who continued to support Matthew through life's challenges and victories. Matt was a courageous man with a kind heart who brightened all our lives.
Join the family for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

I´m so gutted hearing about this. I have so many great memories with Matt before college, during and afterwards. Of course hockey brought us together and he was such a sick player that made everyone better. As roommates he was the best because he was so low maintenance and all we cared about was food and hockey of course. Every once in a while, he would surprise me with a dish out of the blue and he would even plate it super cool like in those cooking shows. I can tell Matt also had a huge heart by how he treated everyone he met and when he talked about his family. He loved his dog and his family so much and was so proud to be from DC. He was the 1 person I was so happy for when the caps won the cup. He took me to a game and I even wore a caps shirt. I´ve never put on a shirt of a different team especially teams in the same conference but only for him. I will miss you roommate. Black line love! To his entire family, my condolences to all of you. Matthew will be missed. Go play with Otto and join an open hockey game with some ex Caps.

I was devastated by the news. I was surprised to hear from him in January after losing touch for so many years. He seemed to pick up right where we left off. I'm very saddened by this. I immediately thought of Bob and his family. My sincere condolences.

Matt, I have nothing but great memories of you when we were dormmates and hockey teammates at Peddie. Every story I can think of ends with laughter. RIP old friend, you will be missed. Loftus family, my sincerest condolences on your loss. Matt was an amazing guy and spread laughter whenever he was around. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
