Irene, Debbie and Johnny so sorry for your loss. Matt is one of the most funniest loving and sensitive persons I ever knew. I Have known matt for more then 32 years, he has left me with memories I will never forget. I am so glad that I was able to see Matt at gathering that I had hosted at my son's house in Plainville last August 29th, he came with a bunch of gifts for me and my family. He by far is one of the kindest and generous person I have ever known, and will be greatly missed by all who he has touched.

Dear Irene and Family,
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Matthew was a great person ~ and by the many stories and condolences expressed here, he clearly had a big impact on many peoples' lives.
You know someone is a really special kind of person, when you've only seen them a few times over the years and yet they've managed to touch your heart and leave an impression on you. I will never forget when He was the one to comfort me when his mom passed. We were all gathered somewhere after the funeral and I remember people were talking, some were laughing and telling jokes. I remember being so upset that people were laughing. I was so young at that time and this was the first person that I was close to that passed away (she was my Godmother). I remember thinking how can people laugh at a time like this? Matthew saw how upset I was and he came over, gave me a big hug and told me that it was okay that people were laughing...that they were just remembering the good times, the funny things and happy moments that happen over the years -- he said telling stories was a way of remembering her. Then he gave me a picture of his mother and said I could keep it, that I should remember the way she looked when she was younger and healthy. He told me that it's good to remember the happy times with the people we love. His words and kindness helped me that day and every time since then when I've lost someone. It helps me now when I think of the loss of someone so wonderful leaving this world too soon.
As I've been reflecting about the kind of person he was, a word popped into my head ~ jovial. So I wanted to look it up. "Jovial--someone who's cheerful and friendly, jolly, happy, cheery, good-humored, good-natured, sociable, outgoing." If I had one word to describe him, it would be "jovial" and that's how I'll remember him.
I'm keeping your family in my prayers ~ prayers for comfort and peace, and that time will heal the pain of your loss, and that what is left is the love, the laughter and the wonderful memories.

Dear Irene, John, Debbie, and family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Matthew. I was blessed to have Matt as my neighbor growing up, and I could go on and on about all the great times we all had playing baseball, basketball, tennis, going to the beach in the summer, getting hit by his snowballs in the winter with his pitchers accuracy, etc but best of all was his great humor and positivity. He was a great athlete and beat us (and almost everyone) at every sport he played. He was a strong Christian and I remember him driving his motorcycle through the neighborhood with a Bible radio show playing loudly without care many times! And of course throughout the years, whenever I saw him, I knew a joke and a good laugh would be in the conversation at some point! So many great memories, and he was like a second father to me and I'm sure to many other kids too. I am sorry I can't make it to the wake and funeral, being out of town. I was so glad and blessed to see Matt and you all last week before he passed and had the chance to say goodbye to him, that was a very sad but special time that I'll never forget.
I pray that you all have God's comfort in this difficult time, and have peace in your hearts knowing that Matt is with Jesus now. Matt is probably telling the Angels a joke right now, I Love You Matt, you will be missed!!

Getting the news Matt had passed was a total shock as it was for everyone but knowing Mat was a privilege that I will cherish forever. I have all of the photos Matt took of me and keep them to look at repeatedly. I also remember working with him at the radio Christmas parties and his stories of working with Caronka (SP?) paving was hilarious. I could go on for a while with Matt stories. He also gave me the name Edju' that became my name at Pratt. But please know I am praying for you folks and hope that you find comfort in knowing Matt is looking down on you all in heaven.
May God bless you all;

Irene, John and Debbie, I am stunned and full of sadness to hear that Matt has passed. I was blessed to have been his friend for many years and we were each others shadows in our younger days. Every day had a joke to laugh at (and it was always a good one because he laughed?) that was followed by his plea to play Home Run Derby! Matt cherished his family and faith and he was truely one of God's favorites. He brought people together in any situation, loved people, amazingly generous and for me, helped me through times with religious guidance. Sadly I am out of town and disappointed to not be there as Matt was ALWAYS there when I needed him. My prayers are with you and god bless.

Matt will be sadly missed to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. You could be having a bad day and then Matt would show up with his corny jokes and a smile on his face and he would brighten the day. He would laugh each and every time wether it was funny or not and it really did not matter to him. He's probably telling jokes up there now. My sympathies to the family.

John and Family, It's been a few years since I last saw Matt, but when ever our paths crossed he was always so kind. Back in the day when his son John played ball for me he was always so supportive, and he was so proud of his children, I'm sure he is looking down on us and smiling. Years ago when he was inducted into the Goodwin Tech Hall of Fame many stories were told about what a great athlete he was, and how competitive he was, May he Rest in Peace,

With my deepest sympathy goes out to his family. Worked with Matt for a good portion of all those years. Had a lot of laughs together and you could not help yourself to love that man. Known Matt to be a very generous and always had a story. Still remember the day and still have the decoupage that he made of my dad. It is a sad time to see such a spirited person leave us so soon and still so young. My thoughts and prayers will be for him and his family. May God Bless You...Matthew

Matt was such a kind man to all families and children. Whenever he was at a game or 'out and about' he'd be the first to engage a friend or a stranger in warm conversation, usually followed up by a light-hearted joke or trivia. His love of life and family was evident.
We are so sorry for your loss. Heaven has taken back one of its angels where he will continue to watch over you and your family.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, he will be missed but lives on through his grandchildren. He was a kind and generous man, although I only met him a few times he made quite an impression, quick to laugh and share stories. I remember his son John telling us his father always tried to make him smile or laugh daily and I thought how unusual and special it must be to have a Father who wants to see you smile and laugh each day. Please take special care and know your family is in our thoughts.

I was so sad to hear of this news. Matt was a great guy! No matter when it was if I was driving by Matt would wave and he loved kids. I'm sorry for your loss Debbie, John, and Irene.
