Mildred Davenport Obituary

Davenport Mildred Davenport, age 84, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016. Mildred was born November 16, 1931 in Ft. Gaines, GA to the late Augustus and Mattie (Graham) Jackson. Mildred will forever be remembered as a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother. Mildred was a God fearing, opinionated, "straight shooter", with an enormous heart and infectious sense of humor. From her childhood days spent climbing trees to her years as a mother and grandmother, Mildred made the most of life by sharing her world class yeast rolls, enjoying cook-outs, and being sure to keep up to date on everyone with her regular phone calls. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Jack Davenport, brothers Simeon, Lindberg, and Clayton Jackson, daughter Phyllis Harden and grandson Arthur Conyers. Mildred is survived by her children, Larry (Bonita) Davenport, Glen (Sandy) Davenport, and Otis (Joyce) Davenport; sisters, Wylene Lee, Bernice (Franky) Shabazz, Jewell (James) Moore, Mattie (James) Toles, and Onita (Kenneth) Wade; brother, Arthur Jackson; grandchildren, Anita, Aaron, Austin, Devon, Stevie, Maurice, and Natasia; several great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and dear friends. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 with her funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 East State Street, Columbus, OH 43215. Interment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park. Visit www.schoedinger.com to share a special memory or extend a condolence.

My heartfelt sympathies to Larry, Glenn and Odie. The Davenports have been a part of my life since Phyliss and I attended OSU, used Millie's house as headquarters when we pledged AKA, served as each others maid of honor, and watched a long friendship bloom between our mothers. Ms Davenport was a comfort to my mother Ruth during her dark illness, and a friend to me throughout my life. I shall always cherish her solid advice, loving interest in my family, and her strong energy shown during Phyliss death. I know that Ruthie now has a very good friend with her, and heaven is a enriched place with Millie's presence. Family, thank you for allowing me to be a part of Ms. Davenport life. God bless you and your family and I know that she lives through each of you and your children.
with much love, Debbie Ward
