Ruby Nell McNeill slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 27, 2013. She was born on May 19, 1916 to Robert Durley and Betty Cason McEwen in Henderson, Tennessee. On August 28, 1943 she married Charlie Brown and became an instant wife and Mother to his three children, Raymon (deceased), Alvin and Joyce. They later had 2 daughters, Sandra and Carol. Mr. Brown died in January, 1964 and she married Elwood McNeill in 1976.
She is survived by her devoted children, Carol Shoppell and her husband Bob from Pasadena, Texas; Sandra Talbott and husband Bruce of Johnson City, Texas, Joyce Wallis of St. Louis, Missouri, and Alvin Brown and wife Nell of Glen, Mississippi and daughter-in-law Jill Brown of Onalaska, Texas. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren and scores of friends at Christian Temple Assembly of God Church where she was a member for 57 years.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream of finishing her education, Ruby completed her GED requirements at the ripe old age of 76, and became a student at San Jacinto College Central Campus in 1992. She continued her studies over the next 14 years, until she was 90. She loved going to college, loved her interaction with her classmates, and was a positive role model to many people.

My prayers and sympathies to Ruby Nell's family. My grandmother, Jesse Elizabeth McEwen, was from Henderson, TN, and I believe a relative of Miss Ruby.

What an amazing woman. Such a godly example, and inspiration to us all. Why, I may yet have time to go back to school and finish my degree!!! Sister Ruby, we all loved you very much. I'm sure your petite body can't even begin to hold that crown with all the stars you were given. I look forward to seeing you in heaven someday.
