Thomas Wilson Obituary

Thomas Elbert Wilson, 83, a longtime community member in Pasadena, Texas, who moved to Spring, Texas, in 2018; passed away on July 6th, 2022 from natural causes.

Tom is survived by his eldest son David Wilson and wife Cindy; his youngest son Michael Wilson and wife Kristen; his grandchildren, Ashton Elizabeth Ready, David Wilson II and wife McKenzie, and Kai Derrick; the love of his life Juleen Wilson; and his younger brother Jack Wilson; along with numerous nieces and other family members.

Tom was born in West Virginia but moved to Texas as a child. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957 and graduated from Texas A&M University in accounting, class of 1961. Like his brothers Jack and Jim, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Tom lettered in pistol shooting and won numerous medals during his time at Texas A&M. He was a lifetime member of the Texas A&M University Letterman's Association. He was extraordinarily proud to be an Aggie, was an avid follower of Aggie football, and gave generously to the university throughout his adult life.

Tom had a successful career in banking for 32 years, working his way up from a teller to become Executive Vice President of San Jacinto State Bank (later InterFirst) in Pasadena and then President of Houston National Bank. He then worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation, cleaning up the fallout from the S&L crisis and started a few other businesses. He finished his career passing on his extensive knowledge by teaching business and accounting classes at the University of Houston.

Tom was well-loved by friends and family throughout his lifetime. He always had a warm smile with a jovial "hey fella" greeting for everyone he met. He was known for his sense of humor and funny colloquialisms. With his crushing handshake, he was a classic Texas tough guy with a great love for the Aggies and old westerns and war movies. He was an accomplished aviator, with a commercial multi-engine pilot rating and many bold exploits throughout his flying career. He always sought adventure by flying, SCUBA diving, camping, traveling, fishing, hunting, shooting, gambling, playing 42, and in recent years, betting on horses with his friend Tommy Bashforth using his own custom-developed handicapping software.

Tom will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at Grand View Funeral Home at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505 on Wednesday, July 13th, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow immediately afterwards in Grandview Memorial Park, with an informal reception offsite.
