Mrs. Prater had a huge influence on my life in 1977 as a junior at Gavit H.S. in her Algebra / Trig class. She not only taught but was able to reach students which is what made her so very special. Thanks to Mrs. Prater, I was able to thrive through 2 years of calculus at Purdue and graduate with an engineering degree. It would have never happened had she not given me confidence with mathematics. My sincerest condolences to the Prater family. Mrs. Prater lives on as long as you keep her in memories. I certainly will!!!!!

Mrs. Prater was a warm and caring teacher. To this day I remember her beautiful smile, generous spirit and passion for teaching, along with the neatest chalkboard writing I have ever seen. God rest her soul and be with her family.

I am so saddened to hear of dear Mrs. Prater's passing. I was fortunate to have her for 2 math classes at Gavit. I have thought of her many times over the years as I tried to pass on her rigor to my own children working thru math homework. She was an absolute pro at all times and cared about helping her students really understand the material, not just pass a test. She was a gift to all of us.

To the Prater Family,
Phyllis was a great encouragement to me in High School. It was because of her her faith in Christ that she was not just an effective teacher but a champion of every student. Hers was a race well run.

Mrs. Prater was an amazing teacher. She genuinely cared about her students. She showed me how to truly understand math; so much so, that I have pursued math in college as well as my career. I will never forget the words of encouragement she gave me when my father passed away and she attended his wake. She has inspired me to be a better person and to show others how to truly love math. She will be dearly missed by all.

Dear Prater Family,
Thank you so much for sharing Mrs. Prater with all of us over the years. She truly touched the lives of many people including mine. I along with every student that entered her classroom was blessed to have her as a teacher. Mrs. Prater demonstrated her faith by the unconditional love and respect she showed each person. When I interact with my own students, I think of Mrs. Prater and how a teacher can truly impact your life forever. Mrs. Prater definitely did. My heart goes out to your family.

There was never a Sunday that went by that Phyllis didn't hand out hugs and her warm smile along with encouraging words. Even though our hearts are saddened by her passing, we know God will reunite us once again. She is walking Streets of Gold with her Savior. Enjoy the Feast Phyllis, for you are at the Lords Table. The sounds in Heaven just got a little bit more sweeter.

To Phyllis' Family: My mother, Irma Veith, loved Phyllis, her wonderful friend, dearly. Phyllis was always so sweet to our family and I will never forget she and Roy helping my dad into their house when he was released from the hospital in a wheelchair, having lost his leg, and we had no ramp to get him into the house. It meant the world to our family to have Roy and Phyllis'help during this difficult time. I will forever hold these two dear people in my heart. I remember Phyllis wrote a note to my daughter when she was pregnant and having trouble with her pregnancy and was on bed rest---telling of her own experiences and how it all had worked out fine. That meant so much. Amy's little one just turned 3 and is precious as can be. Thank you, Phyllis, for all your love and sweetness and caring. I know you are making my mom's day up in heaven. Our love and prayers are with your family.

It was a honor to have known Mrs. Prater while she was at Gavit. She always had a smile and kind word to me and everyone she came in contact with. In times of need I knew she would listen and understand. I still have the Cherished Moments figurine she gave me and everytime I look at it I am reminded of her kindness.
May God be with the family.

My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Prater's family. May God bless you and keep you.
I had Mrs. Prater as a math teacher at Gavit for 3 years. She was simply the best math teacher I ever had. I ended up majoring in math in college, and I have to attribute that to her. She explained things well, and she made class fun. I now teach math, and often when I'm teaching, I remember something she said or did. I won't ever forget her.

Phyllis had come to get her hair done at our salon for years. When her regular hairdresser retired, she became my client. Phyllis was one of the warmest people I have ever met. It was an honor to get to know her over the years, always looked forward to Saturday mornings, her warm smile and beautiful heart. So many people come into our lives, and leave without a trace. Phyllis came into mine, and I am grateful I had the opportunity to get to know her.

Bless Mrs. Prater! She was sincerely the best teacher I ever had!. I struggled so hard in math and she wouldn't let me give up! She worked with me all year in Trig and I managed to get through. When I graduated, she sent me a card ( I still have it 20 years later-because it meant so much). I hope I can be half the teacher she was to me. So many students walked into her classroom and I believe all of us walked out with so much respect for her. I am so sad to hear of her passing but know she is a good place. Bless you Mrs. Prater!
