Cortney Schaeffer Obituary

Cortney Bryan Schaeffer, daughter of the late Clarence and Catherine Bryan, died on April 7, 2009.

She was a graduate of Lehighton High School and Kutztown State Teacher's College, class of 1943.

During World War II, she substituted for teachers who were called into service. After the war ended, she taught at the former Mount Penn High School.

In June 1946, Cortney married Forrest R. Schaeffer, a college classmate.

She remained active in teaching at Kennett Consolidated and Avon Grove school districts.

Cortney served on the altar guild at the Church of the Advent in Kennett Square and was also active as a Sunday school teacher at the church.

In addition, her activities included 25 years with the Red Cross Blood Mobile.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest R. Schaeffer; daughter, Kathy S. Walker, and husband, Michael; grandchildren: Cortney Walker Rohr, and husband, Alex; and Forrest Sean Walker, and wife, Wendy; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Carolyn Walker; one sister, Beverly Deck, Wyomissing; nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be held privately.
