I posted this on my Facebook page earlier today and a friend suggested I share it here. Sending all my love to the Poveys
"Last night, I was guided through a very long dream by my childhood friend John Povey. It had been years since he visited me but it was so clear and so good to see him. I miss his smile, I miss how he made me full-body laugh. Johnny I hope you are at peace and know how much you are missed and loved. Thanks for being there with me last night."

Just wanted to say that I'm thinking about you. When I think about you and Castleton, I remember when we were all kids and you were the only kid I knew who could ride a unicycle around town. Still miss your spirit- you aren't forgotten.

Honestly, to know him was to love him. He really tried to reach out to Me, be a good friend, and look out for the interest of others. His heart, soul, and mind was awesome. I'm so saddened to learn about his passing. John, you had an amazing heart for people, and you never gave up, and gave great advice. God bless you, you were amazing.

The first time I met John he was more open and genuine with me than just about anyone I had ever met--not to mention witty and fun. His spunk was ever present. He was definitely a bright refreshing light in this world. It seems sad, but I can't help but believe that it is the brightest lights that attract the greatest attention from the spheres and are thus sometimes called back to the stars too early. I will never forget him. My condolences to family and friends. If I can be of service in any way please don't hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected]

I just found out today that John is gone. I am hurt and in shock. John was at my house shortly before he moved home and he spoke a lot about his family, expecially his little sister. He was so excited to be going home to her. I can not imagine the pain you all are in. You are all in my prayers. I hope you are able to find comfort in each other and in your memories of him. John was one of the funniest, warmest, smartest and most engaging young men I have ever met. I was fortunate to have met him, and I will miss him immensely.

Very sad news to get today. My prayers are with John's family. I was the first person to meet John when he arrived in MN after taking a cab from the airport when he arrived. He always said that I was his first MN friend. John helped me move a few years back just because, I didn't ask for his help, he just was there for me. John and I volunteered together at the Film Fest a few times. We rode bikes together and had some great conversations. He certainly had wisdom, understanding, and care way beyond his years. God Bless! We will all certainly miss him a great deal!

My heart goes out to the family of this remarkable young man. He was well-loved here in Minnesota and he touched many with his infectious enthusiasm. The last time I saw John he was giving me a ride to a service event. I asked him why he was leaving Minnesota and he said that he wanted to get back to Vermont and be with his family. He spoke lovingly of parents, grandparents, and siblings and wanted to get home to be with you all. I am so sorry for your loss. May the spirit of love be with you always.

John was a great guy. He was always goofy and had a smile on his face. I hadn't driven a car in about ten years and John let me drive the "bumblebee". I was scared but he kept telling me I was doing a good job. He will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss. My deepest condolences to all of John's friends and family. John was smart, fun, funny, talented, genuine, loving, caring... I can't say enough good words about John Povey. Calling him a good friend would be an understatement. I was always amazed at his willingness to listen to me complain about my problems. I always felt comfortable talking with him, and felt like he genuinely cared. I will never forget the countless nights we sat up til sunrise just talking about life, thinking our philosophies were much more profound then they actually are... Haha! I feel so fortunate to have had John in my life. He always made me feel so special and proud to be me! I'm happy to say that I believe I helped him out a bit too. He would always tell me how much he appreciated and respected me and I would tell him the same. He was like a brother to me, and kind of like a counselor too. I always told him that he should pursue a career in counseling or something along those lines. I know he would have done well at it. He was such a great listener, a comforting soul, and such a smart guy. I never thought about the fact that he was 13 years younger than me. John was so mature for his age. Sometimes I thought he was too smart for his own good though. He could never keep out of that busy head of his, no matter how hard he'd try. I always worried about him and told him that a lot, but he had a way of holding his head up high and convincing me that he'd be alright. Unfortunately I think he was in a lot more pain than his friends knew about. That was John though, he never wanted to inconvenience anyone else with his troubles or with any of the serious things that were on his mind. I feel lucky to be someone he could confide in. If I helped him out even a fraction of a percentage as much as he helped me out, it would still be a whole heck of a lot! And what a sense of humor too! We sure had a lot of laughs. I'm gonna miss him so much, I already do. But I know I will see him again in another life, or an afterlife. He was certainly one of a kind to say the least! R.I.P. John. I love you man!!!
