Having a conversation today about NAFTA made me think of my childhood at Arcadia. I discovered Mr Dent had passed and wanted to send my belated condolences. My parents GE and Carolyn
and grandparents Guy and Gladys Miller all worked in the mills. I have fond memories and while I didn't have a personal relationship with Mr. Dent do remember him well. I guess he followed in his father's footsteps because word in Arcadia was that, prior to becoming management, he had his son work in all departments of the mill to have an idea of how the mill works and what the employee working conditions were. The swimming and volunteer FD provided a community with recreation and protection and gave the kids something to be involved with. I joined the USMC in 1973 and left Spartanburg but my heart belongs to Arcadia. The mills provided countless families with a good steady living and I'm sure everyone's heart broke when they had to close.
Fred Dent will never be forgotten by many of the people from Arcadia. I for one.

Several years ago, Mr. Dent presented me a certificate for a course that I had completed in Educators in Industry. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Dent. He impressed me greatly. My condolences to his family. Fred, RIP for a job well done.

My father, Winford Brock, spent many happy years in the employ of Mayfair Mills in Arcadia. He respected and enjoyed his relationships with both Fred, Sr. and Fred,Jr.
On the day he died of a massive heart attack, he was exercising at the YMCA with Fred, Jr. We lost him much too early, but my brother Bob and I have happy memories of
Our days in Arcadia and Mayfair Mills. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in the loss of your father/grandfather.
