I knew Mike & Jimmy Walker, both great athletes and even better human beings. I worked with Jimmy on the police department and met Mike through Jimmy. We shared many a stories when we both worked for the COA. I played softball against Mike in the 70´s and 80´s and enjoyed the exchanges after the games.
My heartfelt condolences during this time of loss. Rest in peace Mike, the Good Lord has brought you home.

I first met Michael at John Adams. He tall, handsome, and athletic. We continued to cross paths once we both started working for the City. With all the accolades he received, his character never changed. He always greeted one and made one feel as though we were the best of friends. He was never pompous or arrogant. A classy individual. I will miss bumping into him at Smiths. My condolences. May the memories you have of Mike help you through this difficult time. Rip, Mike. [Had I known of your untimely death, I would have attended your services.]

I first met Mike in Bellingham Washington, we were playing baseball for our respective teams. I knew Mike by reputation as a tough, hardnosed catcher from Albuquerque. When I asked to meet him, I was met with who the hell wants to know !! We became good friends, butt he would not play slow pitch softball,..we later would live in the same neighborhood and had contests as to who had the best lawn, and then play basketball on our driveway until somebody bleed. We would later enjoy meeting at Lobo baseball games and discuss the pros and cons of everything. I will miss him dearly. God speed my friend.

My connection to Mike Walker goes back to the 1970s because of both the Bernalillo County and Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Departments. Also Mike played slowpitch softball in the 1970s and 1980s. I remember when his boys were little curly headed preschool kids running around the softball fields at Los Altos park.
Mike came out of the south valley, Rio Grande HS and West Side Community Center as did many other parks and recreation staff: Ray Otero, Rocky Valdez, Art de La Cruz to name a few. There was a commitment to providing healthy recreation activities of all kinds for youth, adults and seniors. Lots of projects were getting built. Can't remember when Mike came over to the City from the County but at one point some 30 years ago, he was Director of the Parks & Rec. Dept. and my boss when we were in City Hall.
Mike transitioned from City gov to being a lobbyist at the NM legislature and I ran into him in Santa Fe several times. I am saddened to hear of his passing and send thoughts and prayers to his family.

Mike.
I don't know exactly what to say!
You are a friend to us. Ray and me too! I know how sad you were when Ray left. YOU left too soon too. Cause Ray left too soon, but now you're together with other members of your family and friends and I know that you guys are up there. Please fish in a real lake. ...No more puddles on the street. Okay, I love you, buddy. Be with God! Rest! Rejoice! Always, Monica Otero

Oh, Mike...you touched so many lives, so many hearts! So many friendships that started at Lavaland, John Adams, Rio Grande High School, continued through the rest of your life... and all of us admired, respected and loved you. You had a gentle and sincere heart, you lived your life with values and dedication and you will never be forgotten by all who shared a path with you. Cynthia, your children and grandchildren were blessed by you and the love you gave them. I think of you in Heaven now, sitting in God's Garden, reunited with family and friends who have welcomed you, and God is reaching out His hand, holding it over all of you, blessing you for a life well-lived. Mike, you will be missed but never forgotten. To Cynthia, the children and grandchildren, know that Mike will always watch over you.
