Jeffrey BRAMLETT Obituary

BRAMLETT, Jeffrey Owen Jeffrey Owen Bramlett, 62, died peacefully at home, July 28, 2016, surrounded by his family. Jeff was born November 13, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan to Melvin Conce and Edith Patrick Bramlett. He graduated from high school in Houston, Texas and graduated from the University of Maryland before working as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill for former Texas Congressman Bob Eckhardt. Jeff then went on to the University of Texas School of Law, graduating in 1980. He clerked for Judge Jerre S. Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and then embarked on a distinguished and rewarding 35-year career with the Atlanta law firm that evolved into Bondurant Mixson & Elmore, LLP. Jeff loved the law and the fellowship of lawyers. He passionately pursued justice for all, recognizing the good in all persons. He balanced his business litigation practice with many hours of pro bono representation of individuals and organizations needing legal counsel. Jeff was an active member of the Atlanta Bar Association, serving as President in 2000, and the State Bar of Georgia, serving on the Board of Governors and, ultimately, as President in 2008. He was a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Jeff was a contributing member of numerous other entities, such as the Appleseed Center of Law and Justice, the Georgia Justice Project, the Georgia Chapter of the American Constitution Society and the Lamar Inn of Court. Of equal importance to Jeff was service in various capacities, including Elder, at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. At leisure, he enjoyed golf, travel, music, political discussions and fine wine, all with equal enthusiasm. He demonstrated his love of family in many ways, notably through his many years of coaching his children's soccer and basketball teams. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Cynthia (and Tom) Czabala, Melissa Price (and Donal Nichols), Robert (and Megan) Bramlett and Susanna Bramlett; and his grandchildren, John and Catherine Czabala and Charlotte and Gavin Nichols. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 1328 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia, with a reception to follow. The family welcomes memorial gifts made in Jeff's honor to any charity or good cause, but also recommends either the Military Legal Assistance Program (MLAP), c/o State Bar of Georgia Foundation (Suite 100), or the Georgia Legal Services Program (Suite 250), State Bar of Georgia, 104 Marietta Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30303-2743.

Nancy and Bramlett family, I just saw this and was in shock. I sent him an email and it bounced back and hence I found out. I have such wonderful memories of our being co-counsel, of the time he brought the contingent to Toronto of Georgia lawyers and of the dinners we had whenever we were in Atlanta. The world was a better place because of Jeff and it is a worse place without him.

Many of us learned of Jeff's passing at the 45th reunion of the North Shore High School Class of 1971. We all remembered him as an extraordinary young man, highly intelligent and highly principled. He had his own sense of style in high school, wearing his plaid pants and white loafers - I know, but it looked good on him, he was a golfer after all! And he stood up for his causes whether it was speaking against the War in VietNam or refusing to recite Beowulf for a grade. He repped our high school on the Prep Bowl team, played beautiful acoustic guitar and was one of the most beloved transfer students ever. RIP

Dear Nancy (and the rest of Jeff's family): Mere words just don't seem like enough to express my grief, but please accept my sincere sympathy. I will be praying that God gives you all the strength to get through this difficult time.

Dear Nancy,

It's with great sadness that I write. I didn't know Jeff as well as I wanted to, he seemed to be a kind and gentle man. Ron and I really enjoyed going out with the two of you in Istanbul.

I hope you'll attend church and sit with us, when you're up to it. We'd love to see more of you. We sit on the left hand side as you face the pulpit. Last week's service was very good. Tony preached about the need sometimes to wait for God to act in one's life.

For whatever reason, we thought the Memorial Service was this Friday, not last. I'm so sorry we missed it.

My cell phone number is 404-695-3423. I am always available to my friends.

Yours faithfully,

Kit Robey

Dear Bramlett Family: I am deeply sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in Isaiah 33:23, where God promises to soon end all sickness and death. JM
