Charles Martin Obituary
Martin, Charles "Buddy" 45 passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2011. Buddy was a loved pediatrician who practiced for 16 years in Arizona. He is survived by his daughter Amiah, his Parents Charles and Rebecca and three sisters Susan, Caroline, and Elizabeth. His memorial service will be held at his office; Southwestern Pediatrics 2730 S. Val Vista Dr. Ste 161 Gilbert, Az 85295 on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. Family, friends and patients welcome. His funeral services will take place in North Carolina next week where he will be laid to rest.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My children were just asking about him the other day and asked if we could stop by his house to say hello. Never will forget how he was always there in the middle of the night for me whether it was a sick kid or I just needed a friend. We all miss you Chuck!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My son (Nicholas and nephew Dominic were patients of his). The last time I saw Dr. Martin was in 2010. I just received news of his passing on 12/31/11. I was shocked and saddend. I will miss him. My son is now 18 and I had no thought to changing doctors. Dr. Martin, you will always be in our hearts. I praise God for having you in our lives.

You were an amazing Ped. I remember when I first brought my son to you. I had this cranky 6 month old colicky baby that cried and threw up all the time and as a young single mom I was cracking. You were not only amazing at helping me figure out how to make my little man less stressed out but you also always made sure you followed up with my stress. There wasn't a single visit that you didn't ask me how work was. How I was coping w Kota and when was I going back to school!!! LOL. You always made sure I knew I was a good mom when I questioned myself. Dakota hates doctors but he always did well with you. ALWAYS. I remember when I was fighting with my insurance you always made it work and made sure I could afford to bring him in. Its nice to see that you were THAT doctor so for many families. And for that reason you will be greatly missed by everyone no matter how well they knew you. It saddens me to only just this past week find out about your passing. I know we talked just a few short months ago but since you weren't seeing Dakota anymore we didn't talk as frequently. I called to check in with you the other day and your office let me know you were gone. I definitely had a hard time believing it. You were always soo full of life and you were so young. Not only were you my sons best doctor you were our friend. Wish Id had a chance to catch up again. See you again one day friend...

It was devasting to hear the news about Dr Martin just yesterday. He was such a remarkable man. He was such an inspiration to my son and made a great impact on his life. He will be so greatly missed. May God bless his family and know there is one more SPECIAL angel in heaven now.

Dr. Martin was an incredible man. He was more than just our pediatrician, he was a family friend. I just learned of the news last night and am terribly saddened. He has been with our family for over 7 years and we will miss him greatly.

Dr.Martin was my 4 childrens doctor for 12 years. We are really going to miss him. My kids went in yesterday for their annual check up and it was so quite. Who ever buys his practice will have to have some big feet to feel his shoes. I am so sorry to his daughter and parents and sisters. Dr. Martin was my children's doctor from a few days before my son's premature birth back in 1998. He was a wonderful doctor and very thorough. He was terrific with all children. He will be missed.

Dr. Martin isn't a name that described him well. Buddy is. He was everyone's friend. He was there for our kids, he was there for us, and he was there for everyone he had ever met. He was an amazing doctor, but an even better friend. I relocated to California and even joked with my husband about having to drive the kids 350 miles to see Buddy because leaving behind such an amazing pediatrician was one of the hardest parts of our move. I just hope little Amiah remembers just how amazing her father was and how much he loves her. My heart goes out to the family, the practice, and the patients of Buddy. But even more, my heart goes out to all the people that never had the chance to meet him. This man had the ability to change people in even a short amount of time, and I know I will never be the same now that he's gone.

Oh Dr. Martin, we had some great laughs together. As a medical student rotating with him, I had the honor to build 8 exam tables for his office as well as several pieces of furniture for his home. One in particular that he specifically wanted to pass on to Amiah. I hope she will get this. Thank you for that opportunity! Best wishes to his family.

Dr. Martin was my 4 kids doctor for 10years the only doctor 2 of my kids have ever had i drove almost an hour to his office but he was worth it and not just Dr Martin but his entire staff i just keep telling myself that i will never find another doctor and staff that will love and take care of my kids or i could trust like SW PEDS. I just broke the news to my son last night about Dr. Martin's passing and he asked me if why did he passed away. I just told him that he got sick. My son prayed for him last night. He prayed "I hope Dr. Martin is happy in heaven."

This completely took me by surprise when i heard the sad news. Still can't get over the fact that he is no longer with us. I just found out Dr. Martin's passing today when I tried to make an appointment for my son. I am deeply saddened of the news. Dr. Martin have my son's pediatrician (Noel Aguilar) since he was only 3 months old and my son is now turning 10 years old this November. He was a very a good person.

It has taken me over a month to get the courage to finially write in Docs guest book. Maybe it seems to final? I know that there are many as well as myself that feel such a great loss not having Doc around any longer. I have worked for him for almost 3.5 years and have learned so many things from him. He is a true inspiration and has helped so many people including myself in times of need. All of us, "Buddys Girls" are so sad and to longer be able to share each day with him and enjoy his dailey crazy stories and ideas he would come up with that must be done at a moments notice. We only had Dr. Martin as a pediatrician for one year, since the birth of our first child. He had an incredible impact on my life in that short time. I have the same disability as Dr. Martin and he was such an encouragement to me. He was always so supportive and just an absolute blessing to us. We are so devastated by his passing. I would have been at the memorial service but we found out this sad news too late. We loved you Dr. Martin! Prayers to your family...I hope you find comfort in knowing that Dr. Martin had a full life that blessed and healed so many others.

I moved to Maricopa, AZ in December 2009. Since that time, Dr Martin has been the Pediatrician for my children. We have grown very close over that year. He has helped me tremendously! I am saddened by Dr Martin's passing. I just found out today, when I called to schedule an appointment.

I am deeply saddened to hear today about Dr. Martin. I called to schedule an appointment only to hear he had passed away. My two children have seen him since 2002. Dr. Martin and I became friends over the years. He was an amazing man and I couldn't have asked for a better doctor to care for my children. Dr Martin has cared for my children since 2002. He was always cracking jokes with us and always brought a smile to my childrens faces. There was one time where I took my mother with me to one of my childrens appointments and when he found out that she is a massage therapist, he moved the exam table in the room so that he could lay down and get a quick massage. Lol. He will by sorely missed. I feel like my kids and I have lost a crazy uncle. He was always there with answers to our questions. I wish I had known about the memorial service so that I could have been there. We will always love and miss you Dr Martin. No one else will ever be like you.

I just found out about Dr. Martin's death. I met Buddy in 1993 when he was doing his residency at Maricopa Medical Center. Worked with him at Chandler Regional over the years. We had patients at Mercy Gilbert who had him as their pediatrician. He was loved by many. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Dr. Martin cared for my children for 6 years. I initially chose him because my youngest had a feeding tube just like his daughter did for awhile. It was hard to find someone like him who truly understood that challenge. He also asked how my nursing school was going and that was touching. He gave me the courage to find a new specialist for my daughter who helped her immensely. I was thankful when he returned my midnight pages with a personal phone call when sat up worrying about a croupy child. I remember how he had some special needs teens from a group home at the office for physicals and he gave them all high fives and was very patient with them. I will miss seeing him come into the exam room in his Hawaiian shirts!

Unfortunately I only spent a little time with Buddy at the Cusslercons, and the only thing I really know about him was his passion for Clive and his works. Of that I know he pursued it with gusto. Dr Martin had to be the one of the finest Dr's I have ever had I was heartbroke when I heard the news today! I am very saddened by his loss and hope. It is clear by virtue of the volume and consistency of the messages here that the wonderful heart that I knew in Buddy as a kid touched many people in his later life and professional practice. I was luck to have Buddy's father as my pediatrician and lucky to have Buddy as my friend from childhood. We grew up together but as is all too common, time and distance separated us for most of the time since high school graduation. I was lucky enough to see him at our last reunion and we talked about our childhoods and our families...I specifically remember how he spoke lovingly about his daughter. His intelligence and wit was always sharp, but his heart was sharper. It is no surprise to me to hear that he was a kind and outstanding pediatrician.
Buddy was a dear friend and I will miss him greatly. My heart goes out to the Martin family. We should all hope to be remembered as well as Buddy.

Dr. Martin took care of my 7 children. He always had time to stop and answer questions or just talk, no matter how busy his day was. We had been going to him since my oldest was 4, he is now 16. He was great with the kids and he was great with the parents. You will be missed.

I am so stunned to hear this news. We began seeing Dr. Martin a year ago, and he was by far the most fantastic doctor we have ever had (and given we relocate almost yearly, and have lived in two different countries and four different states, we've seen our fair share). My daughters, ages six and three, completely overcame their previous fears of doctor visits, and I, for the first time, had complete confidence in a pediatrician. My condolences to his family. Dr. Martin will be missed by many.

Immediately wanting to make us feel at home, he asked we refer to him as "Buddy" and always made himself available to take care of our two kids. Buddy was a long time friend, we were neighbors in our youth and kept up via facebook in our adult lives. He was greatly thought of by my late mother, who was an educator and rightly so as he was both brilliant and witty; a gentleman in all respects and someone who will be missed by many.

Our words can not begin to express the loss of our beloved Dr. Martin. Our son is very saddened and we cried together when I had to tell him. Dr. Martin is an example of what I would call an "Agape Doctor". He perfectly loved and cared for each patient as an individual, while mentoring parents as well. You see, Dr. Martin has CARED for our son for over 12 years. Austin has a severe kidney disease affecting both kidneys. I am sitting here, fighting all the tears that rushed to my eyes as I listened to the SWPeds voicemail, when I called to follow up on my daughters blood work. I’m in utter shock as I’m sure many are.
I just can’t get over it. I was just there with my 15 yr old daughter, joking with him and just loving the fact that he was so down to earth and he made her feel so comfortable. He was teasing her about her getting older and having to have a talk with any boy that tries to date her. And how he was willing to go with her to get her blood work done (all we needed to do was tell him when), because of the bad experience she had just a month ago.
I cared for Dr. Martin very much, respected him and was always impressed and amazed by his disposition. Since the day we met Dr. Martin and staff, back four’s years ago, I knew Lia and Liam were in great hands. Not only in great hands, but Dr. Martin was a role model for me and to my kids, on how there is nothing that can hold you down from your dreams, but yourself.
My heart is so torn and I’m just a parent that came in every one in a while. My heart goes out to each and every one of his staff, famil and friends. I’m upset I was not aware of the memorial service earlier cause I would have SO been there on Saturday if I knew. My family just learned of Dr. Martin's passing. He has been taking care of my family for over eleven years. He was more than a doctor, he was our friend. My heart goes out to his staff, family and daughter. We will miss him....Jennie Dimes (Chandler, AZ)

Our Baby James, and us, will miss Dr. Martin dearly. Just in this first year of our baby's life, Dr. Martin, with his own way, won all our hearts. He was a wonderful pediatrician and wonderful person. Thank you for taking care of our baby, and us as parents. God Bless your family.

I did not have the chance to meet Dr. Martin (Jr.), but had the priveledge of knowing Dr. Martin Sr. all my life. To all the family, I am so sorry for your loss, just from reading about him, I know he was a great doctor with a great personality. I am sure he will be truly missed. Please remember your good times, memories and your faith, family and friends to help you get through this difficult time. My prayers are with you all.

My very great friend Buddy. What is there to say about one of my childhood best friends. We shared childhood and teenage discoveries and hardships. We fought like brothers, but always were pals.
The years that Buddy and I spent sopping through the ditches and woods, and riding streets of Jacksonville are ever in my memory. Buddy I miss you. Your courage and perseverance are etched in my brain and I have thought about you often over the last 27 years.
Dr. and Mrs. Martin, Susan, Caroline, and Elizabeth please know that all of you are in my prayers. We lost touch over the years, but you have to be so proud of what Buddy accomplished in his life. My eyes are tearing reading about all of the families that he has touched with his gifts. Buddy always took the gifts that God gave him and used those gifts in remarkable ways.
Buddy you and all of your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. Martin. I did not know him that well because i only visited him when taking my nephew for his appt's. But it was enough to know that he was not only "cool" but very humble, funny, supportive, caring and the list is just endless if i stop to think about those appt's. I'm honored and priviledged to have had known of such a man and cant thank him enough for my nephew's great care. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and staff of the late "Dr. Charles Martin Jr."...Aloha

We will miss you so much I am still in disbelief of your passing. I had a good friend and teacher in you. You were always there for us and our babies. You took care of at least 70 of our babies in the years.
I will remember how you adored your daughter and fought for her. May God be with you and your family. Our prayers are with them.
