Neil Kettering Obituary

Kettering, Neil Thomas
75, passed away on December 5, 2010. He was born on February 8, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio, to the parents of Delbert and Helen Marie Kettering. Neil grew up in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from Northridge High School, class of 1953. On September 3, 1957, Neil enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and took basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. While on active duty, Neil was stationed at Chateauroux Air Station in France where he met Paulette Levon, and they were married October 4, 1960. Neil was discharged from the U.S. Air Force on September 2, 1965. Neil then enlisted into the Air National Guard at Wilmington, Ohio, on September 26, 1965. In 1973, Neil was transferred to the 161st Air Refueling Group, Arizona Air National Guard in Phoenix, AZ. Neil received several decorations and awards while serving in both the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. The decorations include the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal with/1 devise, U.S. Air Force Achievement Medal with/1 devise, U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal, U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal and other awards. Neil attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In addition, Neil also worked for the U.S. Civil Service concurrently during this period of time and had in excess of 20 years of Civil Service. On June 5, 1994, Neil retired from both the Air National Guard and Civil Service. Neil is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Paulette Kettering, both parents, Delbert and Helen Marie Kettering, two brothers, Fred Eugene and Keith Edwin Kettering. Neil is survived by his daughter Theresa Ann Brandenburg, son-in-law Greg, granddaughter Rebecca (Becky) Brandenburg, of Kettering, Ohio, brother Robert Kettering, sister-in-law Trish Kettering of Columbus, Ohio and sister Martha (Marty) Louise Stevens, brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Stevens, of Naperville, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 between the hours of 9:30-11:30AM at Hansen's Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ. 85014. Services will be held at 11:30 just following the visitation. The burial service will be at 1:00 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, AZ. 85024.

I worked with Neil for many years at the 161st and I can say that he was a wonderful man. His sense of humor always kept me on my toes!! He will be missed greatly!
