Robert Levison Obituary

Levison, Robert David, D.M.D.
50, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away and went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, on October 24, 2009. Robert grew up in Phoenix, attending Ingleside Elementary School, and Arcadia High School where he played on the football team and was awarded homecoming king. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder, he received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He practiced dentistry for many years in Phoenix. His generous heart was apparent at an early age when he donated all his earnings from his paper route to the Jerry Lewis Telethon fundraiser. His giving to others was ever present in his life, and he was always willing to help others. Robert loved plants and was a master gardener. He is survived by his parents, Dr. Charles and Helen Levison; sister, Cindy Paul (Chuck); brothers, William Levison (Asli) and Dr. Jeffrey Levison; four nieces and one nephew; and Linda Owens, the love of his life. Memorial Service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3641 N. 56th Street, Phoenix, AZ, on Friday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 550 W. Thomas, Suite 720, Phoenix, AZ 85013, or your favorite charity.

My family moved from Phoenix in 1969 and I soon lost touch with most of my friends from Ingleside. Tonight, I Googled a few names and was very sad to see that Bubba had died, although it was nice to read tributes from a few familiar names. One memory that sticks out in my mind is from second grade, when he and Doug Cole told me they were taking judo lessons and could chop boards in half and flip people in the air. I told Doug I didn't believe it and the next thing I knew I had been flipped to the ground. RIP, Bubba.

Went online this morning, Googled "Bub Levison" to see what my NAU freshman year ('76-'77) roommate was up to. What I got was a gut-punch to learn of Bub's passing over 13 years ago. Lot's of memories of Bub. Kowboy Kountry Klub, Shakey Drakes, rompin' (4 wheelin') at 2 am out in the pines outside Flagstaff. Even as a freshman, Bub seemed to know everyone! He definitely made it easier for a homesick kid from SoCal to make some friends. I thought of Bub often over the years, but never reached out. I guess time, distance, and life got in the way, regretfully. Happy to learn in these posts that Bub was so loved by so many. It's easy to see why, as he was a genuinely good guy. To the surviving Levison family, please accept my belated condolences.

I just recently heard of Bubba's passing. We went to elementary school together and were close friends. I used to to stop at his family's house on the way to school (Ingleside) for pancakes. I moved to Colorado in 7th grade, and never stayed in touch. He was a very charismatic and genuine person. It looks as though he touched many lives. My very late condolences goes out to his family. I'm glad he is with the Lord.

I am so sad to hear of Bobs passing. I was talking about Bob last night with a mutual friend and woke to really need to talk to him. Bob and I both moved to Tucson around the same time and started working for Dental Village. We quickly made fast friends. Who wouldn't with such an amazing person. He made my transition to a new life so much fun. He would say all the time "Lets go to the bar and watch the dog and pony show" Our fun times ended after he fell rollerblading and received a concussion and had to move back to PHX. Miss u Bob

Bob was such an exceptional person. He stood above all of us in dental school as the most engaging and humorous. Bob was the guy you always hoped would be at the party or gathering.

Even though I stayed in Pittsburgh after graduation, Bob and his antics come up frequently and are fondly remembered. I've never met a person as quick witted and fun spirited. Bob was exceptional and is truly a treasure.

To the Levison Family. I just found out about Bubba's passing and so sorry to hear of the sad news. I went to Arcadia with Will but also remember Bubba around school & playing football. I remember at that time he was just an all around nice guy. Based on everything I have read here, he did not change a bit & had impacted a lot of peoples lives & will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Bubba....

What a loss, I am so very sad and sorry to hear about Bub. Bub was someone who made you feel good just to be near him. Things were always looking up. The world is shy of Bubs, and his spirit will be so sorely missed. While I did not grow up on Mitchell (and am a little jealous of that, go Hopi), I was very lucky to have gone to Arcadia with him. What a sweetheart, always fun to be around.
My deepest sympathy and many prayers are sent to Linda, the Levison family, and these many dear friends.

To know the Bub is to love the Bub. More importantly... to know Bob is to have a friend, who would readily give the shirt off his back. He is fun, generous, & thoughtful. I know this to be true up until the last weeks, days, & hours before he left us. As we all know, he is one who will not be forgotten. Bob, rest peacefully, for you are missed and will always be remembered. Dr. & Mrs. Levison & Linda (mom), stay strong.

Dr. Levison, Family & Linda, I regret not finding out about Bub's passing until just recently. This news saddened me very deeply. I've known Bub since the start of our school days at Ingleside. Most of us can say we only have a handful of real friends we can really count on. It's been several years since I've seen Bub but I know if I ever needed his help, he would not hesitate. That's the kind of guy he was. I'll miss him very much. Bub always had time to visit with his old friends. God Bless!

I remember Bub for his outstanding character and generous personality. He gave me and others kind compliments, always seemed to have a positive outlook, and had a warm heartfelt attitude. To Bub's loved ones...

I have such fond highschool memories of Bubba. He took me to my first cotillian formal in 1973. He wore a powder blue tux with a ruffled shirt and brought a lovely wrist corsage. I remember his folks taking our photos as we left to have fondue for dinner. He was a sweet and thoughtful young man.

After I left Phoenix, I often saw him on my return trips home at TeePee. It was always wonderful to reconnect. He still looked like the young man I knew as a teenager.

I'm so sorry for loss...I hope you know of the many great memories Bubba left behind.

I learned of Bubba's passing from my brother Jeff yesterday. I am so very saddened by this. We lived right across the street from them on Mitchell Drive for a year back in 1963-64. Jeff and Bubba were good buds for years, through Arcadia High and beyond. I think he got his first car from Bub, maybe an old Dodge or something. He was a very funny and nice person. My condolences to the family.

Bubba stood out in footbal with those great hands and carry on with his hands to dentistry. After doing dental work on me, I always ask the other doctors if they play any sports or have any hobbies. He was very inspirational and I always look for a little bit of Bubba in others.

To The Levison Family,

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all. I was so sad when I got the news of Bubba's passing. Bubba was my first big crush in grade school...he played on my brother, Jeff's Ingleside/Tavan Little League team. I didn't see him again after the baseball season was over until high school a couple of years later and remembered him right away because of his sweet smile, personality, and good looks. Bubba was always kind to me and treated me like a kid sister. I will dearly miss him.

In loving memory,

I grew up across the street from the Levisons. I think I was over their house more than I was at mine. Bub always treated me like one of his other little brothers...which always made me feel welcome and I wanted to hang out as much as I could. Bub always treated me great as the years moved on. He will be deeply missed.

For those of us in the class of 76, Bubba was a true Arcadian icon...He was everything that was GOOD about high school; he transcended all our many cliques, broke down barriers, withheld judgements, and made us all laugh, by being simply who he was..... Though I hadn't seen him since his Pittsburgh days in dental school, it's inspiring to read all these memories of Bubba....and to be reminded of how much difference one life can make. My warmest thoughts are with you all tomorrow.

I was so deeply sad to hear of Bub’s death that it took me a while to compose my thoughts. Bub was so special to me and he will forever hold a special spot in my heart. Although it’d been a while since I had last seen him, the essence of Bub is timeless in my heart and mind. First to mind was Bub’s beautiful and warm smile…..I absolutely loved Bub’s smile!! Next his eyes & how much they communicated with just a look. I also remember his humor, laugh and wit …. he even enjoyed his own humor and would laugh…….which in turn made us all laugh. Bub was unpredictable, intelligent, kind, and the obvious … handsome! He loved family, was loyal to friends and he enjoyed people. The unique thing with Bub was EVERYONE loved him! EVERYONE! Bub possessed a charisma that came effortless to him; hence his genuineness was warm and inviting and it drew us/invited us all in. I am blessed to have known Bub when and how I did. The gift he leaves me are the many cherished memories. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Dr & Mrs Levison, Cindy, Will, Jeff, Linda, extended family and his friends who will all dearly miss him. May God’s peace comfort you. While I am still sad, it comforts me to know Bub must have felt so very loved. Bub was and is a unique and special man! I loved him and I will miss him.

The first time I met Bub Levison, I was sitting on his lap, running my fingers through his hair and 40 high school girls were looking on, laughing hysterically. I was trying out for a club in high school, Bub was the king, and the members were trying (very successfully) to embarrass me. I think he must have sensed my humiliation because he whispered something very kind, and was I forever grateful for his empathy.

Bub was bigger than life back then and by reading these pages, it sounds like he continued to have a wonderful impact on many lives.

My heart goes out to the Levison family and Linda. I am so sorry for your loss, and I am also sorry for our loss. There are few people that bring a smile to your face every time you think of them, but Bub did. He was definitely one of the good ones.

Sorrowfully,

Miles and years have separated our families. Thanks to all of you who are remembering Bub with such wonderful thoughts and words. I have truly had the love of a lifetime-imagine taking ALL that is Bub and getting to be the 'girl' that he falls in love with. The last six years of my life have been so amazing getting to love and be loved by Bub-and to become a part of the Levison Family-that's another gift all on it's own. As my son told me "the measure of a man's life is the number of hearts he touched" which is countless by Bub and as I've seen written over and over To Know Bub is to Love Bub.

There has been a collective sadness in the Arcadia district since his passing and my heart goes out to his warm and loving parents, siblings and Linda. You have to know his awesome smile will always be with us. Love you Bub. Sincerely, Mary Ann Raymond Martin

To the Levison Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was, without a doubt, a man that lived life to the fullest. I'm sorry it was cut short. I lost my brother two years ago and understand the anguish you are feeling. It is a long road of grieving but you will.... someday... smile and remember the joy he brought to you. My prayers are with you all. Amy (Thomas) DeBoer RDH Phoenix

To the Levison Family - my heartfelt prayers go out to all of you so that you may find the peace that passes all understanding. I remember Bubba for the kind and funfilled friendship he had with my sister Kirsten at Arcadia so many years ago, and more recently for his quick witt and bright smile. His memory will live forever in the hearts and minds of many. Peace to each of you now.

I was so saddened to hear of Bubba's passing. We went to high school together, and he was the best. Always smiling and willing to help someone out. He was so a genuine "gentleman". My condolences to his family and Linda.

Though distance separated, hearts of family are boundless and we feel a heavy loss. Bubba will always be remembered as our "Gentlemen's Quarterly" type handsome cousin...but his beauty went much beyond looks. Hugging you all in our daily prayers.
