We were saddened to learn of Jim's passing. He was a wonderful person and cared for our children during his time in Carroll County.. Peace to your family

I am so sorry to have learned about Jim's passing in the Bucknell Alumni magazine. Not only did I attend college with him, I used to shoot baskets with him at Wilson Elementary School in West Caldwell NJ when we were kids. He went to Catholic schools I believe and I went to public so I did not see much of him during high school years and in college we would just exchange hellos. He was a very nice person.

I was 2 years behind Jim at Bucknell, and a Brother of his at the SAM fraternity, Even then, all of the wonderful things said about him in the Baltimore Sun article were apparent. It was clear he would go on to do great things. My condolences and small addition to the chorus of people who will mourn his loss. Jeff Stone, Cherry Hill NJ

Dr. Jim was a gift to our family, from the very first helping to ease our minds as new parents and working with us to raise healthy children. He has been a blessing to us, and will ever remain in our hearts and prayers. May God bless his family, colleagues, and patients. We love you, Dr. Jim!

We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Jim. He was larger than life but a gentle giant. He cared for my children in Westminster and we followed him to Lutherville. Dr. Jim was always kind, caring and compassionate and never too busy to answer a question or a phone call. We think of Dr. Jim fondly and often. My babies are now 29 and 25. Our hearts and prayers are with his dear wife and children. There truly is another Angel in Heaven!

Sending the Fragetta family love and strength during this difficult time. Clearly a beloved member of the community, I feel so fortunate that Dr. Fragetta agreed to be my preceptor when I was studying to be a nurse practitioner. Among the many things he taught me was that in order to take care of a child, you must take care of the family. His heart and reach were great, this loss is immense. May he Rest In Peace and shine on all the children he cared for.

Great man who was a wonderful pediatrician for all 3 of our daughters. Our oldest daughter, Carleigh, was one of his first patients in Westminster, and we were happy to follow Jim to the Maryland Pediatric Group in Lutherville and make the extra drive knowing our girls were under his care. We are deeply saddened by his passing and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Im so sorry to hear of Jims passing. I had the pleasure of meeting/knowing Jim through my mom, Leslie Burke, who worked for the Chief of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins while he was chief resident. He always made her smile, and I could see why during the few times I was in his presence. I know from many throughout the community how much he touched their lives. He is already greatly missed.

We are sooo saddened and sorry to hear about Dr. Jim's passing. Dr. Jim has been our pediatrician for 22 years - from the time my son was 10 months old. We had just adopted Garrett and Dr. Jim had just taken over Dr. France's business. My daughter was introduced to him at 31 days old. Whenever it was time for a checkup, we would compare notes on how our kids were doing in school and in sports. Both kids are now 22 and 20 respectively. Jim's encouragement to both kids, his humor and warm smile will be greatly missed.
With Sincere Condolences,

I knew Jim while coaching girl's soccer at Towson HS. Jim was the best at everything, especially as a parent, and his involvement with girls and sports at THS. My thoughts are with the family, especially Shelby and Kendall. Jim is irreplaceable. May he rest in eternal peace.

Amazing, Selfless, Passionate, there are not enough adjectives to describe what Jim meant to everyone he touched. I was lucky enough to know him during my brief time at Towson High School where he would volunteer countless hours, organize initiatives to improve the school facilities, work concessions at so many games, and help out in any way he possibly could. I remember Jim as one who could organize and motivate an army of helpers to do anything to improve the grounds around the school. He even made sure we had plenty of people and supplies to help clean out and paint trash cans around the school. He was willing to do anything and everything to make the school a better place. No matter the task, Jim had fun and did it with a smile on his face. He gave so much not only to Towson High School, but to the Towson Recreation Council as well. Even though his daughters were moving up from the rec council to the high school for sports both Karen and Jim wanted to make sure the families after them had a better experience than they did. I remember seeing him at Dumbarton and talking to him about the girls basketball program. I was amazed at how much the entire Fragetta family gave of themselves. If there was a free minute and something needed to be done or someone needed help we all know Jim would be there. I believe we are all forever grateful to have had Jim in our lives. Jim left a legacy by giving the gift of unmeasurable love and goodwill to our community that will continue to grow.

Jim visited and examined each of my three children immediately after they were born. I could write countless paragraphs about his selfless acts of kindness towards others. I felt extremely privileged to call him my children's pediatrician, my neighbor, and my friend for 20 years. Truly one of the finest men you could ever hope to meet.

Karen, Shelby and Kendall,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have known Jim since he did his residency at Hopkins ......and he was a wonderful pediatrician to both of my daughters. He never hesitated to give out a hug to my girls when they asked for one, knowing he was going to make them feel better. Such a warm, compassionate man with a great sense of humor. Thank you for sharing such a fine man, husband and father to all of his pediatric family. He will be greatly missed!

It is hard to believe that such an incredible mantruly one of a kindis no longer with us. It was exactly a year ago that Dr. Fragetta saw my youngest for his 18-month well visit. He was always full of kindness, patience, genuine interest in our lives, intelligence, and integrity. Dr. Fragetta was well loved by my husband, myself, and our three children for over seven years. He made hard things easier. He listened as if he had all the time in the world. Dr. J always spoke so highly of his daughters and enjoyed updating me on their happenings. He was such a proud father. I will also hold it dear whenever we were going through a hard time due to our own grief, sickness, or other valleys that occurred, Dr. Fragetta would freely offer his own support, share from his own life (I talked with him at length about his mom's early death), or just give you a reassuring smile. He was truly one of a kind. I sat and wept when I first learned of his diagnosis, after spending two days in shock. I wept again at hearing the news of his death. My heart goes out to his family, friends, colleagues, and patients he left behind. May we carry on his legacy by pursuing excellence, always smiling, being genuine, and spreading kindness. Until we meet again...

My son Trey was one of Dr Jim's first babies who he cared for in his first practice located in Westminster Md. During Treys 4yr old check up we spoke to Dr. Jim about some worries we had and comments made from his Pre K teachers. Dr. Jim was so proactive in his concerns he sent us to numerous specialists one being a Dr. Susan Grant a friend of Jim's. At that time Trey was diagnosed with Autism. If it had not been for Dr. Jim's love and care for Trey who is now 22 yrs old Trey would not have received the services needed. Trey has become a young man who will tell you his love for trains, his accomplishments in society and his enjoyment at the Arc of Howard County. Dr. Jim has in many ways had a influence on my family. My youngest son Will plays football for Gettysburg College and Dr. Jim always made sure his physicals were signed by him on time for football season and showed a true interest in Will's enjoyment. Trey always liked going to the woman's lacrosse games to just say hi to Dr. Jim. Jim wouldn't let Trey leave until the team was wining because he always said Trey was a lucky charm.

Dr. Fragetta was one of the most incredible parents that I ever had the pleasure to work with in my entire career. I will never forget his unselfish nature and compassion. He did whatever was necessary to enhance Towson High School and the surrounding community. Beyond his willingness to take initiative, lend a helping hand, and his belief that anything can result from hard work and determination, he was the ultimate representation of integrity.
We are reminded of Dr. Fragettas self-sacrificing nature everywhere we look at Towson High School. He worked tirelessly to enhance our facility. His efforts were always focused on making the student's life at their home away from home an enjoyable experience. Often found on our grounds in his off hours, he spray painted the Towson High School logo on trash cans, painted benches that needed repairs, and hung banners. As a former THS Volunteer of the Year Recipient, he was instrumental in bringing the dream of a turf field to reality. Dr. Fragetta never expected anything in return. I believe he lived by the motto, Live for Others.
Throughout Dr. Fragettas battle with cancer, one would never assume that he was ill. At our final home football game, Dr. Fragetta cooked burgers on the grill. He also spoke at our recent Athletic Awards Ceremony. He shared words of encouragement with our audience, reminding us once again of his influence on our students, coaches, and families. Our school was reminded of his unwavering, unselfish nature to serve others.
Committed to his family, he was also dedicated to making a difference for all of mankind. We are so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have known Dr. Fragetta! His influence will live forever in the hearts and minds of many.

Karen, Shelby and Kendall,
My heart breaks to learn of your loss. I was privileged to have meet Jim during his Hopkins residency. He was a warm of integrity and compassion - friendly, warm, caring and the consummate Pediatrician. I so enjoyed working with him as a Hopkins nurse and can say without hesitation that everyone who interacted with him was better for the experience. May Jim rest in peace and your family. patients and their families find solace in his memories.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Fragetta's passing. He has taken care of our 14-year-old triplets since they were born. He was a wonderful pediatrician who really made the children feel comfortable and always took a great interest in their lives and activities as well as their health. Dr. Fragetta always talked about his own children and was so proud of them. The family will be in our thoughts and prayers. We pray God will comfort them during this very challenging time.

Dearest Karen,
I am so sorry for your loss. Although i haven't seen you or Jim in a LONG time, you were always very special people with hearts of gold and wonderful laughs and warmth. I cannot believe you must face this sorrow at such a young age. Jim left a huge mark on the world, and on children and their parents - as i can see from comments below - not at all surprising knowing the person i knew in college. All my prayers and hugs are with you now and the days going forward - that you may rest assured he is in a good place and still in your life and around you, and i pray you find comfort in that, and your memories and family and friends.

Jim was the very first person I met upon moving to Baltimore with a letter he secretly sent to me asking for pictures and fodder on Rob for the welcoming intern slideshow. Jim went on to become a revered mentor to Rob, our trusted doctor and most importantly a dear friend to both of us. I will always think of Jim as having the highest standards- from his profession to his yard to his knowledge of sports but, always mixed in with so much love and compassion. He touched our lives in so many ways, always for the better.

My heart and prayers go out to Karen and the Fragetta family. What a void felt here in Baltimore! I graduated from Bucknell as a classmate of Jim and Karen. When my son was in and out of the hospital with very frightening asthma, we used a doctor in Jim's group. Having been from Bucknell, when I would wish to say hi to Jim, I could always hear his deep laugh through the door if he was busy with another patient. Jim made a point to check on my son's progress and always asked about him. I last saw Jim a year and a half ago at our Bucknell reunion. Jim made a point of finding me to ask about my son and family. He was so proud of his girls and we spoke of them as well. What a brilliant and kind gentleman with a huge personality! How blessed are we in Baltimore and at Bucknell to have known Jim! This is a tough one to process. Sending all my prayers and love to Jim's beautiful family and friends. Wishing you God's peace that surpasses all understanding.

Thank you for all you have done for our family, Jim. When our first son was born via emergency C-section we listed you as his doctor- without ever having met you; based on a mutual friend's recommendation. We were so happy when you showed up in the room for his first examination and we have enjoyed your care and support all the way through our son's high school soccer games at Towson High School. You gave us more than we could have ever asked for as a professional and as a friend.
