Charles Clark Obituary

Charles Henry Clark, 69, of Beaumont, passed away with his wife by him on Tuesday, December 29, 2008 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. A native of Beaumont and a graduate of South Park High School, he also completed the Carpenter's Apprentice Course at Lamar College. Charles was owner and operator of Clark Construction Company in Beaumont/Orange area until moving to Massachusetts in 1988, where he built condominiums and then worked for The Stripping Workshop. He retired in 1993, due to illness. After his retirement, Charles was introduced to camping where he enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, grilling and repairing/refinishing furniture. Charlie particularly enjoyed the time spent with his Grandpa Stockholm. He was also a member of the Lions Club of Orange and was instrumental in his nephew, Charles Turner, participation in the Lions Camp in Kerrville. Wherever Charlie went, he never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Janet L.G. Clark of Beaumont; sister, Ann Heiner of Beaumont; stepsons; nieces and nephews; step grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends. His parents, Charles S. Judge and Thelma I. Clark; sister, Susan Cain; and brother, Carl Chester Clark preceded him in death. We would like to acknowledge the compassionate care given by Dr. Jay Schachner and the many nurses and caregivers at St. Elizabeth, especially Christine, Carol, Brenda, Amanda and Kimberly. The Clark Family was a wonderful family to have as our next door neighbors for eleven years from about 1948 to 1959.

Charles Henry was a blessing for my family as he came to help us in times of need. My Dad had a work schedule that was unpredictable and he was often unable to be at home to do the chores of living on a farm. Charles Henry was always willing to lend a "helping hand." I especially remember him going out in the winter weather to milk our cows.

Charles Henry will always remain part of my memories of growing up on the farm.

May he enjoy eternal peace.

My family and I have many fond memories of Charles. We lived right next door "out in the country." We knew him as "Charles" or as my Mom called him "Charles Henry".

He was a tremendous neighbor to grow up next too. Some of the things I recall: riding the school bus together, bailing hay with he and his dad "Judge", hauling "leftovers" from the school cafeterias in garbage pails to feed his pigs when he was in FFA, his milking our cows when my Dad was working overtime, riding on the tractor with him cutting hay prior to bailing, riding on the hay rake while he pulled it with the tractor, both of us having to "wash" outside when we broke some rotten geese eggs, him washing my face in the cow trough when I got sick and fainted, and him helping my Dad take apart our old '41 Oldsmobile.

He was truly a "giving" individual. I was fortunate to see him last about 2 years ago at Calder Wood in Beaumont where my Mom was staying at the time. We had a real good visit and he still had that twinkle in his eye as he reminded me of the incident with the rotten eggs.

I along with many others are "a better people" having known Charles. May he rest in peace.
