I was a colleague of Pat's at Eastern Illinois University in the 70's and 80's. I am saddened to hear of the early passing of a fellow lover of literature. My heartfelt condolences to Michael on the loss of his beloved companion and spouse.

Pat was a neighbor of ours in Sunapee. He always had a smile on his face and had something pleasant to say even when we discussed his Red Sox vs my Yankees. I had the pleasure of congratulating him after the Red Sox won last year and he got a kick out of that. Michael - You truly picked a good partner and mine and Doreen's condolences go out to you.

Although I had lost contact with Pat the past several years, I have wonderful memories of his compassion and friendship... especially twenty years back in the summer of 1985 when he allowed me to house-sit for him while he taught out east for a few months... the highlight was that I got to practice on his piano every day that summer and spent time with & play with his wonderful dog... as a musician having a real piano to utilize was a rare treat... and Pat was always available for me to talk with at various times during my first few years at EIU ... I will truly miss his smile and charming laugh... he was definitely a true gentleman... and a really great guy... I'm so glad I got to know him!

Pat was a special man in many ways. He laughed easily, listened carefully, responded thoughtfully, and made himself available to faculty and students alike. He has left us too soon, again.

Mr. Wright was my English instructor at EIU around 1981. He was a wonderful teacher. As an avid reader, I'll always remember some words of wisdom he gave me to me to try new books. I am very saddened by the news of his death and my sympathy is with his loved ones.
