JAMES CRONIN Obituary

CRONIN, James J. Of Mansfield, MA passed away at Norwood Hospital on Saturday June 29, 2019 after a long struggle with a cardiovascular condition. He was 62.

Born and raised in Dorchester, James was the son of the late Francis X. and Victoria T. (Venezia) Cronin. He attended Don Bosco Technical High School, studying Electronics. He then served in the US Air Force in the Geophysical Laboratory. James later earned his JD from Suffolk Law School. He was an Attorney for many years, practicing family and real estate law.

Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed in-depth discussions on a variety of topics, especially politics and history.

He had a passionate love for music and he was a talented musician. The Grateful Dead inspired him to create his own band, The Fossyls. The band played many events at the American Legion Post in Sharon, MA. When his band wasn't playing at the Post, he helped out with administrative bookkeeping tasks there.

James was the brother of Patricia A. Cronin of Abington, MA; Michael F. Cronin and his wife Marian of Weston, MA; John E. Cronin and his wife Nancy Edwards of Jericho, VT; and Mary V. Bodkin and her husband James of Quincy, MA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews that he loved.

Funeral Services will be private with a Memorial Service held later in the year, at a date and time to be announced.

Each day I pick up Uncle Jim´s guitar and play a few chords, I am eternally grateful he shared the gift of music with me. Other than the occasional string change, I keep it just the way he left it, Grateful Dead pins and all.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing, he was a good man and revered by my wife and I. Jim was brilliant and had a vast knowledge on many topics of conversation. Jim's musical prowess was beyond impressive. Jim was humble and never egocentric. We had many great times together especially when we all enjoyed musical performances. Anyone who knew Jim could not deny his illuminating presence. May Jim rest in Peace and his family's bereavement be replaced with joy. Jim is at peace.

I'm so sorry to have just heard of Jim's passing. We worked together for years at Lechmere. He provided lively conversation on those late night shifts. And he always treasured his family and friends. My sincere condolences to his family and all those who will miss that laugh.

Jim molded my life when he taught me to play guitar when he was stationed in Okinawa. I was in high school and he would come over on Saturdays and spend the day teaching me to play for the mere price of my mother's home cooked meal. He taught me songs that we could perform together at the USO coffee house nights. When I moved to Massachusetts in the late eighties I tried to find him but it was a time before the internet. I always wanted to thank him and let him know what a difference he made in my life. I was heartbroken today when I did an internet search and found this obituary. I love you Jim! Forever in my heart,
Stephen Lee Sawyer.
