I worked with Jeff at General Ship in the Engineering Dept in the 80's. Jeff was a very skilled Shipfiiter and brought that expertise to the front end of the Ship Repair process. He was always willing to take time to share his knowlege of the trade. More than anything else Jeff was a great guy. He was just a sincere, no BS, salt of the earth guy. I left General Ship in 1989. Kept in touch with him after that but when I moved back to Maine in 1995 and lost the contact. I was thinking about some of the guys I worked with at GSC the other day and googled Jeff only to see his obituary. Very sad to see that. I am writing this to send my very belated sypathies to his family and friends. Its Thanksgiving and I want to say that Jeff was the type of person to make a lasting impression even 30 years later. Life is a journey, and I am very thankful to have crossed paths with Jeff Barrows.

Jeffrey was married to my sister, Rachel, and he was everything one could want in a brother-in-law. I can't count the number of times he picked me up at the airport or brought me back through blizzards, or the number of times he would make a run to the sub shop while I was visiting. He was a devoted and loving husband to Rachel, and a proud and deeply involved father to his boys. I cherished his sense of humor and his willingness to see things from many different angles, a rare quality these days. Perhaps few of you know that when my Mom's health failed, he totally supported Rachel in bringing her into their home. They converted their downstairs unit into a beautiful, homey space where my Mom spent her last few years. Rachel, Josh, and Jake, I can only hope the memories you share of him will ease this time of sorrow.

I was a friend of Jeff through high school. He was a year older than I, had a dog named Ricky, lived ,I think, on Pleasent Street and sold me his afternoon paper route. I have not seen him since high school but remember him as a good guy. I'm sure he was a good man and I'm sorry for your loss.
