From lifts to college in your black Fiat Uno rocketing to Waterford on a dark Mon morning listening to Des Cahill, to having each other's backs on the pitch, both hurling and football. Your words of encouragement in the dressing room and again on the pitch I'll never forget, not least your passion for the game and of course your rendition of Christy's Cliffs of Dooneen
To his wife & family, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I first met John at the squealing pig, many many years ago. He was a wonderful soul and fine man. I saw him recently in November and enjoyed a drink at his new endeavor. I am so sad he is no longer with us, the world has lost someone amazing. My thoughts are with Jess and his family and friends during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to John's wife Jessica, to his relatives and friends. I was so very sad when I heard the heartbreaking news of his passing. I've known John for some years and recently had a long chat with him in the Puddingstone Tavern. He was one of nature's gentlemen. I shall remember his big smile and his kindness to me each time we met. He will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him. May his gentle soul rest in peace. From Joan Armitage, Galway, Irwland

A gentle soul who I've known since I was 7 years old. Also a fearless sportsman who graced both hurling and football fields with skill and limitless bravery. My mother met his parents only a couple of weeks ago and he was in all our minds whilst having a chat about where he was and what he was up to. Now we are all shocked and saddened to hear this news.

I belong to a group of JP poets. Two weeks ago the venue for our annual Thanksgiving reading was unavailable and John stepped forward to host us at the Puddingstone, and he went above and beyond. I only met him the one time but felt like I was having a conversation with an old friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to John, and to you his friends and family. ~ Brian.
