David D. Wetzel
67, passed away at his home on May 9, 2014. Born in Akron, on Feb. 17, 1947 to Robert and Jeannette Heisler Wetzel; he was an area resident all of his life. Dave graduated from Field H.S. in 1965. At the age of 17, Dave lost his leg in a sledding accident, which was just the beginning of a long list of insurmountable battles that he fought and overcame. He never let anything slow him down. He worked harder and was able to accomplish more than many of his peers. Each obstacle he hurdled, just built his character, and made him stronger. Dave worked for Pressler Meats and ran his own trucking company, before retiring from Goodyear Tire and Rubber with 20 years of service. He also dedicated many hours coaching girls softball. His coaching spanned the Field, Springfield and Barberton areas.
Dave,  a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, is survived by his loving family, wife of 43 years, Reva; children, Kelly L. and George (Laura) Wetzel; grandchildren, Mason and  McKinley; sister, Sue (Robin) Hall and their children, Dan and Cody; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Connie Campbell;  aunt and uncle, Bruce and JoAnn Heisler. Our family would like to extend all of our love and gratitude to Dave's cousins, Ed Heisler and Connie Morton, and our close friends, Caroline Klein and Mike Taylor.
In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place. Our family will receive friends at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Private burial at Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa.
