Beverly Hills, California - Dr. McCoy "Mac" Lee Moretz, of Beverly Hills, CA was born January 17, 1957 in Newton, NC. He died after a brief illness on March 10, 2021 at the age of 64 in Los Angeles, CA. He was the son of Charles Hugh Moretz and Kathleen Morris Moretz of Newton, NC. Grandson of Joseph Alfred Moretz and Elizabeth Leonard Moretz of Hickory, NC. He raised his family of five children in Atlanta, GA.
Mac is survived by his brothers Charles Hugh Moretz, Jr. (Nancy King) of Redding, CT, and John Morris Moretz, (Marilyn) of Hickory, NC; his former wife, Teri Duke Moretz of Los Angeles, CA; and his children, Brandon McCoy, Trevor Duke, Colin Edward Charles, Ethan Morris, Chloë Grace, all of Los Angeles, CA. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Kathleen Janette (Katy Jane).
Dr. McCoy Lee Moretz completed his pre-med studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. He graduated with honors from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and continued his surgical internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He began his private practice in Atlanta, GA, then relocated to Beverly Hills, CA, where he founded F.A.C.E. of Beverly Hills, specializing in innovative and revolutionary cosmetic surgery procedures blending western surgical techniques with traditional oriental and herbal medicines. He recently expanded his practice to Hickory, NC, co-founding Vitality Surgical Center and Infusion Hydration Center.
Dr. Moretz was voted one of the 'Top Facial Plastic Surgeons in America' by the Consumers Research Council of America for 2012, 2014 and 2015. He was also honored by Rotary International with the prestigious title of Paul Harris Fellow.
Mac was active in local and international charities. He provided pro-bono surgeries for the Mending Kids Foundation, an organization that provides life-changing surgical care to children in 54 countries worldwide, giving them transformational surgeries that help them have a chance at longer, healthier, and happier lives. Mac was also an active member of the Southern California Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. He served as a Ringside Physician for the California State Athletic Commission, and served as the advisor to the board of several health and lifestyle brand companies.
Since the age of ten Mac knew he wanted to be a doctor. As a youth he achieved Boy Scout Eagle Scout status and wanted to make the world a better place. During his scout years he summited Mt. Fuji in Japan. As an undergraduate at UNC, he joined and lettered playing on their fencing team.
However, success isn't just what you accomplish in your life; it's about what you inspire others to do, leaving a lasting legacy, a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. He was affectionately known, was an excellent surgeon, a kind mentor, and a true friend. He always got joy out of helping and teaching others. This translated to his patients and he treated them all as if they were his best friend. He laughed, joked, hugged, listened, and cared for their every concern.

A private memorial service has been celebrated. A North Carolina memorial service is being planned for later this summer.

Mac was an amazing man who cared deeply for everyone regardless of station in life. He was so kind and thoughtful not only with me but my family and friends. He was humble and when we talked he would ask about others, when I pressed he would share tidbits about his passion to care for others including surgery for disadvantaged disfigured children and adults. My youngest son met Mac three or four times and each time would comment on how he enjoyed Mac's demeanor. When I learned that Mac had passed away I was as many others shocked and deeply saddened. My youngest son passed away suddenly four months after Mac...so I hope they are hanging out in heaven celebrating and monitoring our lives from above. We miss you Mac.

I was so shocked when I found that Dr. Mac had passed away! I will always be grateful to him for helping me when others failed. I am a retired RN and he literally saved my life!! I was affiliated with a home health agency and we did IV antibiotics in the home. Dr. Mac used us to give intravenous antibiotics in the home, especially pediatric patients.
I would have traveled to CA for his help; he is this good! He is kind, compassionate and an excellent surgeon! He would always pray for himself and me before doing surgery;God bless you, Dr. Mac. My condolences to your family.

Just got the news. Deepest regrets. Wonderful times with Mac and my friend Richard Langer in Los Angeles. Mac told me as a fellow North Carolina rooted son...that Margarite Morriss from Albemarle was his relation...and my junior high librarian.
