Mitchell Ruhl Obituary

Mitchell Lee Ruhl
July 21, 1953 - September 6, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Charlotte lost a rarity on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, a true Charlotte native, born and bred. Mitch died in his sleep.
Mitch was a good friend to many, a great brother and uncle. He was a lover of trains, large and small. Mitch was fortunate to tour the country on Amtrak when the "Ameripass" was still a thing. He was a rock music fanatic (Hello Steely Dan). Mitch liked a good beer and a good football game. Big dogs were a constant in his life. Mitch was a proud graduate of East Mecklenburg High School (Class of '71) where he played varsity basketball (Go, Stretch!). He was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Mitch is survived by his brother, Steve Ruhl and his wife, Carol; nephew, Ben and his wife, Laura and grandnieces Darcy and Emmylou all of Charlotte. Also surviving are his stepmother, Betty W. Ruhl; stepsister, Leslie Brazelle and stepbrother, Rick Brazelle. Mitch also leaves behind legions of associates, colleagues, and friends from his 35-year career in the service of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry. He was predeceased by his parents Robert C. and Johanna L. Ruhl.
Services will be private.
Memorials may be offered in memory of Mitch to Union County Humane Society, 4015 Waxhaw Highway, Monroe, NC 28112.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

I worked with Mitch for many years. He was always very funny and so helpful. He even came to my house and helped me with my computer when I first had children. I will miss him greatly.

I continue to be so sad about Mitch's death. It seems that much of the music I still listen to is what Mitch played for me at his apartment, especially Steely Dan! Mitch kept one of my ceramic pieces (I was a potter back in those days). I'd love to have it because I gave it to Mitch and he held on to it. I can be contacted at the email address I included with this message and would love to hear from a family member. Thanks.

I am so saddened to hear of Mitch's death. He and I went out together for over a year. He took me to see Joni Mitchell for my 21st birthday. He was a kind person with a great sense of humor. About 10 years ago we reconnected through Facebook and I'll always be glad we did. Even back in 1976 he was a great cook and he always grilled chicken on a little charcoal grill on his porch. There will always be a place for him in my heart and I'm so sorry he's gone. I send condolences to his family and friends.

Mitch and I went to East Mecklenburg High School together and he later helped out with several bands that I played in as a sound man & roadie. We took a month-long train trip around the country in the early 80s which was a blast. Mitch had a great sense of humor and imagination. We had a lot of fun hanging out and have great memories. I was sorry to hear the news and send my very best wishes and condolences to Mitch's family. Andy

I wanted to edit my first post. Mitch and I both took that train ride to NYC to visit friends there. I added another photo taken at Wrightsville beach in 2007

Mitch was a good friend I met long ago. I once took my first real train ride, (Tweetsie Railroad), to NYC to visit friends there. I added an old photo, taken where we called "Kellerville". We were practicing a song for the upcoming RobBob party. Mitch and I were both born in 1953. R.I.P my friend.
