Robert Gross Obituary

ROBERT (BOB) G. GROSS October 2, 1955 November 10, 2015 Resident of Walnut Creek, CA Bob passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon at his home in Walnut Creek. He was born in Avenal, California to Danny and Judy Gross. After spending his formative years in Central California, Bob moved to Southern California where he attended Loyola University studying Mechanical Engineering. He graduated in 1977 and joined PG&E as a Gas Pipeline Engineer. He worked for PG&E for over 27 years and was recognized as an expert in Gas Engineering. In 2004, Bob joined Gas Transmission Systems (GTS) as Co-Owner, Partner and Executive Vice President. Bob had many passions and hobbies. He was a drummer and aspiring vocalist with the "Ramblers," a Rhythm and Blues band he founded in Walnut Creek. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Cheryl both nationally and internationally. He also was an avid wine collector. He enjoyed golfing with the Golden Bay Golf Club. He was also an executive board member with Habitat for Humanity in Butte County. He loved learning and obtained his MBA from Fresno State and Professional Engineering Registration in California and Nevada. Bob had a passion for life and loved to laugh. He took pride as a Professional Engineer but more importantly, he enjoyed developing future leaders. Two of his favorite expressions "There is Nothing More Important than Family and Friends" and "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life." Bob is survived by his wife of 35 years Cheryl, his mother Judy, his father in law, Bob Pike, his brother Bill and his family, and sister Joni and her family. The family will have a memorial service to celebrate Bob's life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

I, too, was with Bob at LMU, '77. A lovely tribute to him and his very generous scholarship gift to the university appeared in the LMU MAGAZINE in today's mail. Recalling his ready smile and hearty laugh. My condolences to the family.

I attended Loyola Marymount University with Bob and graduated in the same class he did. He was well liked by all he came in contact with. Friendly, personable, great sense of humor. Rest in peace, sir.

Bob and I first met as Engineering Trainees in Gas System Design in 1978. Bob always brought a smile to those of us in (or near) the office with him.

We spent several months together working side-by-side each day. Bob and I connected a few times after I left PGandE and he moved on to bigger and better things. He was always happy to reconnect and share stories of times at the utility.

My condolences and prayer to Cheryl.

I first got to really know Bob when he was my Manager in the mid 90's in Gas Distribution & Technical Services; he was a great boss, and we all knew that the wellbeing of his employees was important to him. I really enjoyed working with Bob, his positive attitude, and his clever humor. Over the years, I worked with Bob in various aspects, and always liked hearing his stories! I remember how excited he was to be attending a fantasy rock & roll camp, and you could just picture him jammin' with the band members! Another time, I remember Bob dressed as John Belushi and the harmonica coming out; it was a sight...and we all laughed. I will miss Bob, miss seeing his smiling face, and miss the way he made us all laugh. My thoughts & prayers are with Cheryl and all of his family. Bob, we will surely miss you!

I have known Bob 30 years and will miss him dearly. He always had a smile and a chuckle every time we met. We had the best of times at and after PGE from Fresno to San Francisco to Walnut Creek. We could always count on each other in good and tough times. I will miss his jolly laughter and kind words. What a wonderful and warm human being. My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to Cheryl and family.

As a next door neighbor to Bob and Cheryl for many years, I am so sorry for his passing. He has always helped me when needed to figure out my watering system or lift something that I can't. He was always so friendly and great to talk to. I''m sorry that he isn't able to enjoy his retirement that he so deserves. He has worked so hard for PGE. They were lucky to have him. Happy that he and Cheryl have been able to take their trips to Europe these past few years. Wishing Cheryl strength to do all she needs to take care of. Good friend.

I am so sorry for the loss of Bob. I have not seen Bob for about 30 years, but we grew up together in band and sports and I always enjoyed his amiable personality and friendship.
