Dorothy (Dot) Roberts Fowler, 89, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Hospice Ministries. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at St. Peter's by-the-Lake Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the parish hall.

Dot was born on June 8, 1922, in Gadsden, Alabama, the daughter of the late Horace Simpson Roberts and Hazel Dixon Roberts. A longtime resident of Jackson, she graduated from Central High School and continued her education at LSU where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in psychology. Dot married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Charles (Bubba) Fowler in 1946 after he returned from serving in the Army.

Active in her community, Dot was a member of the Meadowbrook Garden Club; several crochet, sewing and quilting clubs. She donated many lap quilts she created to Ronald McDonald House. Dot also constructed handmade dolls to give to homeless shelters. Dot was a longtime volunteer at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital and was a Docent at the Governor's Mansion. She also enjoyed serving as a volunteer for the Palaces of St. Petersburg and Splendors of Versailles Exhibits, where she earned special recognition for her service.

A cradle Episcopalian, and a licensed Eucharist minister, Dot was communicant of St. Peter's by-the-Lake Episcopal Church and previously attended St. Philip's and St. James'.

In later years, she was a resident of The Orchard, where she enjoyed every activity available. While a resident, Dot founded the Hob Knobbers Club and the Afternoon Coffee Club. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends playing canasta, bingo and dominoes. Dot also enjoyed working in the Country Store.

She was a member of, New Directions at St. Dominic, where she enjoyed many activities and participated in many events hosted by the Ridgeland parks and Recreation.

She is preceded by her husband of over 60 years, Dr. Charles T. (Bubba) Fowler and daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth (Betsy) Gallagher.

She will be most remembered as a beloved mother, a devoted grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include: daughters, Ginger Anglin and her husband Lindsay of Olive Branch; Babs and Russell Blair of Las Vegas, NV; Susan and Ken Tucker of Katy, TX; Frances and Tom Judkins of Brandon; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and sister, Betty Rowland of Madison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's by-the-Lake Episcopal Fowler Angel Garden, 1954 Spillway Road, Brandon, MS 39047.

Betty and family, Sincere thoughts of sympathy and prayers are with you at this time of loss. Ms Dot was a sweet, and wonderful lady. We are all better people because of the influence she had on our life. May God Bless you all.
